* $ Crack Field Certain for Fairmount Derby on Coming Saturday e • COLLINSVILLE, 111., May 27.— While the field for Saturdays Fairmount Derby is still somewhat uncertain, enough information is at hand to believe that the fourth renewal of Fairmount Parks chief fixture will be up to the standard of preceding years. The field this year will again embrace some of the stalwarts that battled valiantly in the Kentucky Derby. Each year finds the leading contenders in the Kentucky Derby renewing their struggles in the Fairmount fixture and on occasions there is added interest in the presence of a new Richmond, such as Haste, which triumphed in the Inaugural Derby here over Bagenbaggage and Boot to Boot. The succeeding year, Whiskery, winner of the Kentucky Derby, met his Waterloo. Buddy Bauer, Osmand and Jock led him to the finish after a grueling struggle. Last year Misstep, which followed directly in the wake of Reigh Count in the Kentucky Derby, triumphed over Toro, with Solace in third place. Expectations for this year are that Clyde Van Dusen will be among the starters, though more recent advices are to the contrary. General manager C. Bruce Head and secretary J. B. Campbell have not given u hope that the colts namesake trainer may change his plans and send the youngster here. However, Clyde Van Dusens absence should not detract greatly from the race for included in Saturdays field will be Naishapur, which made such a gallant attempt in the Kentucky Derby, and African, which finished third in the Preakness Stakes. Others that are almost certain to start include Karl Eitel, Essare, Paraphrase, Lieut. Russell, Windy City, Minotaur and possibly several others. That the Derby running is attracting wide interest is manifest by the numerous reservations being made. The clubhouse boxes, as well as those in the grandstand, have been disposed of and other reserved space is being eagerly sought.
