S. moved away into a long early lead, set the pace to the last sixteenth, but tired l adly and just lasted. DOCTOR FRED, always in close pursuit after going the first quarter, came gamely at the end and just missed overtaking the winner. KENTUCKY BADE moved up gradually on the outside and held on well. DAVID L., far back to the stretch, saved much ground and closed up fast. PATERNAL showed early speed, but tired. SANDY MAN tired. GENGHIS KHAN tired in the drive. The latter raced with the leader and forced the pace under strong riding, but tired in the final strides. CHICAGO failed to menace the leaders and had no mishaps. CHIP tired in the drive. GOLDEN PUINCK, *vcll up, improved his position rapidly in the stretch and easily outfiuislied CAYUGA. The latter took *be lead from CROFTON near the stretch turn, but tired in the drive.
