AK-SAR-BENS OPENING DAY Predict Banner Meeting" for Omaha — Wagner-Jarvis Starting Gate to Be Used. OMAHA. Neb., May 30. — The annual spring meeting of the Ak-Sar-Ben Exposition Company gets under way at Omaha this afternoon under ideal conditions. The weather is perfect and the track, due to the untiring efforts of superintendent James Ronin, is in the very best of condition. The best class of horses that have ever performed over the local course are ready for the word and the program for the initial days racing is a good one. The feature race is the Omaha Inaugural Claiming Purse, and such good sprinters as Short Price, The Dago, The Doctor, Kit Carson, Charm and others will go to the post. Of the six races supporting the stellar attraction, four are over a distance of ground. The Jarvis-Waggoner starting gate, which was used during the Tulsa meeting, will l.e seen in operation here. It has been decided by the management to give it a trial and starter Eddie Thomas will preside over all get-aways. The first section of the gate arrived yesterday, while the second section is due to get in today. It was announced this morning that the Ladies Days, which have proved so popular in the past, would be continued this season ■ and ladies will be admitted free on Wednesdays and Fridays. Many first class stables are on hand and there is no dearth of good riders. Some of the better class pilots who will be seen m action are George Woolf, C. Critchfield, S. Steele, T. May, E. Sporri, R. McCray, L. Logan and J. Redding. The first race will start each afternoon at 2 oclock and seven races will be given daily. Following is a complete list of officials : Steward representing Nebraska State Racing Commission, N. J. Ronin ; stewards, Herman Conkling and Perry Reed ; judges, John Carey and J. S. Rothert ; starter, Eddie Thomas; racing secretary, John Carey; clerk of scales, J. S. Rothert ; patrol judges, James Gallagher and William Doyle ; paddock judge, William Doyle.
