BIG CROWD AT BAINBRIDGE Cleveland Track Taxed to Capacity by Great Holiday Crowd — Feature to Denny Cooney. CLEVELAND, Ohio., May 30.— P. H. Car- penters Denny Cooney was the winner of th« Blue and Grey Purse, the fifth race, which attracted the best field at. Bainbridge Park this afternoon. Mrs. L. M. Holmes Arabian and Rebeck, racing for the Missouri Stable, divided the minor portions of the purse. After the first eighth, the promising apprentice jockey, R. Cooper, sent the Sweep colt into the lead, which he never relinquished. All during the last sixteenth the midget was hard at work on him, however, to retain a length advantage. From a slow beginning, Arabian steadily improved his position and finishing fast in the stretch outstayed Rebeck. The latter had no excuses, was prominent all the way, but was tiring at the end. A tremendous Decoration Day crowd taxed to capacity the accommodations of the plant, over 15,000 passing through the turnstiles. Ideal summerlike conditions prevailed and it was replete with rousing stretch struggles. After racing Illumine into defeat in the first half mile of the curtain-raiser, Stuarts Draft drew away into a commanding lead in the stretch. From a slow beginning Face Cream gained considerable ground in the stretch to dispose of the others for second place. Volsel was a rapidly tiring third. C. T. Worthington withdrew Union W., in the second race, and depended upon Mrs. Foster to carry his colors to victory. She ran past the leaders in the stretch to a handy victory. Bootsie Boo came from far back to outstay the tiring Tackle for second. The latter set the early pace, closely accompanied by Minah Louise, but the latter quit badly after suffering interference midway in the stretch. Rush Padgett saddled the winner of the third race in Treasurer. The veteran racer showed a brilliant burst of speed after making the far turn and secured clear sailing next to the inner rail, then drew away into a long lead in the run home. Jim Bridger, never far from the leader, proved to be much the best of the others. King Solomons Seal was a rapidly tiring third after racing prominently to the stretch. Seths Romance moved up with a rush on the outside after making the far turn in the fourth race and continuing gamely through the stretch shook off Fair Bill near the end. Fair Bill raced Lampward into defeat but was driving hard at the end to save second from the resolutely finishing Isabella, which suffered serious interference midway of the back stretch. Blue Rose, the favorite, was in close quarters much of the distance.
