JACK HOWE WINS A. ilN Comes Back After His Saturday Defeat to Make Score Three Out of Four. CLEVELAND. Ohio. June 17.— Jack Howe, of the J. C. Ellis stable, came back tod.iy and made amends for his defeat, when favorite, in Saturdays Plain Dealer Handicap. He won the fifth race, which featured the card, and accomplished it without the slightest difficulty. This gives him three victories and one third in four starts at Bainbridge Park. Paragraph, a filly which won a race Saturday for H. J. Fry, made a courageous effort to catch Jack Howe just before the finish, but had to be content with the place. Tarrydiiidle. another recent winner, was a somewhat distant third. Woodmont, a gelding, by Campfire, graduated in the first race, when he headed a rather large field to the finish line. He drew out from his opponents after rounding the far turn and scored an easy victory, although Prince Charles made a very impressive finish on the outside after making up a lot of ground running down the stretch. Erins Bride was a keen contender and was not menaced fur the small end of the purse. Wenlz, from the stable of Mrs.. J. Wells, continued in improved form in the second race, at three-quarters of a mile. He found space in which to pass the leaders in the last eighth of a mile and finished with good courage. Aeronauta was B "Xt best and held on to git second place after setting the early pace. ltidy S. closed very fast and got third plarc. EL ;. Bedwells two-year-old maiden colt Fair Allan made the finish of the third race Very interesting by closing fast on the outside to win drawing away from the other juveniles. White Knee had moved up to the front and appeared to be the winner until he was collared by Fair Allan. He held on to finish second ahead of P. Ungers Tackle, which went well throughout. Star Maiden, a three-year-old filly, representing M. Gaughan. and favored with very light weight, proved much the best in the fourth race, at one mile and a sixteenth, winning going away after having dropped back •in the early running. Prig made a strong threat ami finished second. Col. Hemingway came fast on the outside and once went into the lead, but tired some near the finish.
