LADIES DAY AT MONTREAL — ♦ Four One -Mile Races on Program at Blue Bonnets. ♦ Plianariot Breaks Bonn In Running of Rare for Canadian-Kreds — Miss tiaiety II. in Front. » MONTR E A L, Que., June 17.— Milers were catered to at Blue Bonnets this afternoon and the distances of the last four races called for a journey over that distance. This meant that the starts were from the standing stalls out of the mile chute. These races brought together well matched fields and interesting contests resulted. After the brilliant program of the opening day, the absence of class was noticeable, but despite this, .good sport was in order. It was ladies day, the first of these occasions of the meeting, and another large crowd was in attendance. The conditions of two of the races called for horses to be foaled in Canada. The Seagram Stable furnished the winner in the iirst of these races in Pandorus and in the other sent to the post the favorite for the race in Plianariot. The latter broke down during the running of the race. Beginning in the middle of the bunch, Phanariot was running head and head with Galopin Diamond before they had gone a quarter and then went to the front, and after leading for a few strides, emit suddenly and went to his knees, unseating his rider. Phanariot then hobbled along for another eighth, when he was caught and led off the track. On examination, his injuries were found to be of so serious a nature that he was destroyed. Mrs. E. Glassco furnished the winner of the race in Miss Gaiety II. Slow to being and outrun for the first half mile. Miss Gaiety II. was taken to the outside entering the stretch and, finishii g with a burst of speed in the last eighth, caught and passed Brevet to win going away by two lengths and a half. Brevet beat the tiring Galopin Diamond by a couple of lengths for second place. PLEASING CONDITIONS. Racing conditions were ideal, the weather being warm and pleasant and the track fast. The conditions of the first race called for maiden two-year-olds foaled in Canada. There were four starters and Pandorus, from the Seagram Stable, was a prohibitive favorite, going to the post at 1 to 4. When it came to the running Pandorus made most of his own pace and won in easy fashion by two lengths and a half. Breaking rapidly, the favorite ran in close company until after passing the eighth post in the home stretch, where he began to draw away. Archipelago was staggering at the end and repeatedly swerved to the inside and Canaille easily disposed of her to get the place by six lengths. Throwback and Jug of Gold developed fever and were excused from starting by the stewards. A rousing finish came with the running of the fifth race, when Sun Dixie beat Negotiator by a nose. Negotiator was the one to set the pace. Taking the lead soon after the start, he remained in front until the final stride. Pygmalion was the one to force the pace and raced head and head with the leader in the stretch, where Mann, hugging the rail, saved much ground. At the eighth post Sun Dixie moved up and a battle royal between the three ensued. At the end Sun Dixie proved the gamest. Pymalion was tiring and just managed to last long enough to beat Emplette by a nose for third place.
