- _ African and Clyde Van Dusen to Start in Latonia Derby 3 J HOMKWOOD, 111., June 17— There haa been a change in the plans regarding African. Instead of being shipped direct to New York to await the running of the Dwyer Stakes, he will be shipped to Kentucky to start in the Latonia Derby, at a mile and a half, to be run next Saturday, and from there go East to again battle with the eastern three-year-olds. Clyde Van Dusen is another that will strive for the Latonia prize. In his case, should he be successful in landing the Latonia Derby, he will earn an additional $." ,000 for having won the Kentucky Derby. Trainer Van Dusen is of the opinion that the difficult track at Washington lark wag too trying for the colt in the American Derby, and it brought about his undoing.
