THIRD FOR SILVERDALE McLean Colorbearer Triumphs Again at Churchill Downs Valdosta Is Winner of Owensboro OwensboroPurse Purse Big Sandy Scores Scoresin in First Race LOUISVILLE Ky May 29 Silverdale Edward B McLeans homebred fouryear old which revelled in the Churchill Downs footing today scored his third victory iu consecutive starts during the present meeting1 when he easily accounted for the Kosmosdalo Purse the feature of this afternoons pro ¬ gram at that course The sturdy son of The Porter and Margaret Ogden won easily and this notwithstanding that jockey E Ambrose forced him to set his own pace under the top weight of 115 pounds poundsRunning Running the distance in 138 over a good track the victor romped to the finish a length in the lead of the Southland Stables Play ¬ time one of two threeyearolds among the five starters Third went to Plumbago which folloved two lengths back and Royal Julian which was expected to furnish much con ¬ tention followed far back backWell Well suited by the softness of the track dampened by morning showers the winner quickly took command and racing in his best fashion was never seriously threat ¬ ened and withstanding Playtimes challenge after reaching the stretch held sway through the final eighth without much effort On the stretch turn Plumbago moved up and for a time followed close up on the inside of Playtime only to give way gradually after completing seven furlongs furlongsAfter After keeping within four lengths of the leader during the first threeeighths Royal Julian lost ground thereafter and failed to come through with his usual belated speed speedTItACK TItACK mrilOVES mrilOVESThe The morning showers left the track in a slow condition for the racing but a par ¬ tial clearing of the skies permitted the sun I to get in its work with the result that the course improved as the afternoon wore on Public judgment held good in more than an average number of instances and several close finishes marked the sport Roscoe Gooses Valdosta and jockey Yelton made up the winning combination in the Owensboro Purse a claiming affair in which seven other threeyearolds started over six and onehalf furlongs This marked the winners first victory of the year and leav ¬ ing no doubt of his superiority he won despite interference and a considerable loss of ground when he bore out on the stretch turn At the end he led Quiver a recent arrival from Latonia by one and onehalf lengths and Peace Boy followed a head back backAll All of the placed trio raced from behind the early leaders and drawing away in the final stages decisively disposed of Ante Bel lum which held command to the stretch and with Mindoro the favorite and Elstar tired badly when the final drive came Mindoro showed a tendency to bore in and after dropping back in the stretch went to the inside directly in the wake of the tiring Ante Bellum Nine of the poorer grade older platers raced one mile and a sixteenth in the opening race and the contest resulted as expected when F P Letelliers Big Sandy the favorite proved the winner with Black on White next in public fancy second They raced from far back during the final half mile and the winner profited when Black on White ran into a bad pocket on tTie stretch turn Before he was clear Big Sandy had gained a good lead and Black on Whites rush failed to take him to the victor Third fell to Lady Basil which outstayed Friend the leader for more than threequarters by a goodly margin marginFOUL FOUL CLAIM PISALLOAVED PISALLOAVEDA A claim of foul resulted in the second race when E Ambrose who drove Sun Porter home in second place to Sugar Kiss ridden by apprentice R Reeves protested the young ¬ sters tactics in the stretch Reeves while not affording Ambrose any too much room experienced some difficulty keeping his mount straight and this resulted in the bumping of the two horses The stewards saw no reason for a disqualification disqualificationThe The winner and Sun Porter raced far in advance of the others after the opening two of the five furlongs and Old Man was some five lengths back at the end in third place One of the worst starts of the season took njuch interest out of the contest and resulted in tne prompt elimination of Naughty Sallie Moira and Jeanne D and hurt the chances of others among the fifteen starters Sour Mash figured in his first winning effort during the meeting when lie raced home a neck in advance of the fast fin ¬ ishing Southland Boy in the third in which only seven started Percentage the favor ¬ ite raced to third place at the end of the sone mile and a sixteenth
