BOUQUET CLAIMING STAKES Dorwood Stables Golden Legend Takes Belmont s Main Race Victory Completes Double for Jockey Work ¬ man Track Conditions Arc Unfavorable NEW YORK N Y May 29 Golden Leg ¬ end racing for Victor Emmanuels Dorwood Stable was winner of the feature race of the Westchester Racing Associations program at Belmont Park today He scored in the Bou ¬ quet Claiming Stakes over the Widener course The race had a net value of 5775 to the winner Hieaway racing for J P Jones took second place and P S P Ran ¬ dolphs Gay Pal saved third from Westerner a stablemate to the winner winnerThe The weather improved considerably though it was still cold for late May while the track was heavy from recent rains In fact it was so heavy that there is some doubt of its being back to good condition for the big holiday program tomorrow afternoon When Golden Legend won the Bouquet Stakes it completed a double for Sonny Workman He had piloted the Greentree Stables Ro ¬ many Baw to victory over a big band of maidens in the opening race raceThe The start was a good one in the Bouquet Stakes but as the barrier went up Westerner swerved sharply to the outside losing some ground Coltiletti straightened him up promptly and in the meantime Golden Legend had taken a good position Then until well within the final furlong the Dorwood pair were racing first and second It was in the last furlong that Westerner tired and Golden Legend after being roused with the whip went past to be winner by two lengths Hieaway was racing along the inside and his was a good performance when he was closely lapped on the filly at the end The pair of them outfinished Westerner by half a length lengthGLOSSIX GLOSSIX EASY WINNER WINNERGlossin Glossin the imported son of Ellangowan that races for Ralph Beaver Strassburger was an easy winner over James Butlers Stormy Dawn and the Greentree Stables Jus ¬ tinian in the second race There was only three starters The three were sent away in the same stride and to a moving start Jus ¬ tinian and Stormy Dawn at once drew away slightly from the English colt but the pace was slow and this order was maintained until near the stretch turn There Workman roused Stormy Dawn to have him shake off Justin ¬ ian but at the same time Coltiletti called on Glossin and in a couple of strides he was alongside the Butler colt A few more saw him past and in the last eighth it was no contest contestGlossin Glossin drew away with ease to be home the winner by two lengths while Stormy Dawn had beaten Justinian by three lengths for second place It is probable that the lack of early pace had something to do with the defeat of Stormy Dawn but it was a race to indicate that Glossin is much at home in the heavy footing and something better than a useful sort sortEighteen Eighteen maiden threeyearolds met in the six furlongs dash over the Widener course which was the first race and Romany Baw from the Greentree Stable proved best through the heavy going Workman took j j him into an early lead and there was no time that he was seriously threatened He won by a length and a half halfThe The others were well bunched back of the winner and when the numbers were dis ¬ played it was discovered that second had been awarded Captain Hook from the Sage Stable with third to Trapmar from the Cattawba Stable StableWHITNEY WHITNEY PAIR IMPRESSIVELY IMPRESSIVELYRideaway Rideaway and Fervor the II P Whitney pair finished first and second ahead of a good band of juveniles that met in the fifth race at four and a half furlongs At the end they both had plenty in reserve to lead home Mrs K E Hitts Prince Peter with the Greentree Stables Blue Law finishing rather a distant fourth fourthThe The field ran closely bunched all through the early stages with Fervor up with the leaders while Rideaway was further back When Robertson found an opening for Ride away he moved through with no trouble rind Prince Peter was the only one to give the pair any semblance of contest Prince Peter was racing along between the Whit ¬ ney pair and when he was hanging on so resolutely Robertson shook up Rideaway to make the score certain The chestnut drew out readily to be winner by two lengths while Ferver had beaten Prince Peter by half a length but with comparative ease Blue Law was five lengths away awayJ J P Smith sent his second winner to the post when he saddled Sun Forward for the claiming handicap that was the fifth This fellow carried the silks of Mrs Victor Eman uel and scored rather cleverly over Kildare from the Newtondale Stable with A Went zels Host rather a distant third From a good start it was Kildare that forced all the pace while McKechnie rated Sun Forward along back of the leader and on the inside after he had disposed of Host which went along under a strong restraint in the early racing Flaming for a time chased Kildare but he did not appear to be entirely at home in the going and tired before the stretch was reached i
