AMERICAN DERBYNEXT Gallant Fox and Whichone Not Coming for Famous Event Field to Be Larger as Result of Their Absence Race Con sidered Most Open One NEW YORK N Y June 9 Gal ¬ lant Fox will not be sent to Chicago to fill his engagement in the American Derby next Saturday This decision was announced though it was not ex ¬ pected the son of Sir Gallahad III would be sent away from home again until he goes for the Classic at the Arlington Park course on July 12 12The The colt came out of the Belmont Stakes as he has come out of his other triumphs none the worse for his great gallop and as a matter of fact he looks better than when he was brought to the races by Fitzsimmons FitzsimmonsIt It is probable that his next big en ¬ gagement will come in the Dwyer Stakes at Aqueduct That is a one mile and a half race as was the Bel ¬ mont and he will have to concede four pounds to Whichone by reason of what he has already accomplished His weight will be 126 while the Whitney colt will be asked to carry 122 pounds poundsWhichone Whichone will not be sent to Chicago for the American Derby Saturday and it will make the Dwyer Stakes the next engagement the two have in com ¬ mon They are also both engaged in the Classic HOMEWOOD 111 June 9 Definite word reached Washington Park this afternoon that neither Gallant Fox nor Whichone would be shipped here for the American Derby next Saturday The principal reason advanced for the failure of their owners to send their crack colts here to try for Chicagos famous race was because there was not sufficient time for Gallant Fox and Whichone to recover from the strenuous mile and a half race in the Belmont Stakes last Saturday before being called upon for additional preparation for another gruelling contest in the American Derby While there is general regret that neither Gallant Fox nor Whichone will be among the contestants in the outstanding race of the Washington Park meeting the con ¬ sensus of opinion is that the American Derby is too great an American fixture to lose any prestige because of the absence of any particular horse or horses The field cer ¬ tainly will be larger and without question the race will be a most open one with the winner a logical claimant for threeyearold championship honors honorsGALLAXT GALLAXT ICSIGHT ARRIVES ARRIVESImportant Important happenings in American Derby circles during the past twentyfour
