THISTLE ANN DISAPPOINTS PddsOn Favorite Finishes Third in St Charles Purse Jlncc Is Won by Etonardo Which Is Closely CloselyPressed Pressed at Finish by Starboard Light Kingsport Is Victorious COLLINS VILLE 111 June 9 The St Charles Purse which engaged some of the better grade threeyearolds and featured the program of the Fairmount Jockey Club for today went to Frank Serembas Etonardo a son of Leonardo in a driving finish with C Buntes Starboard Light second and George Collins Thistle Ann third thirdAfter After three favorites had made good in succession Thistle Ann which was made an oddson choice disappointed the favor ¬ ite players playersFrom From a good beginning young Morgan had Etonardo in front and the Seremba racer was never headed thereafter although he was straight as a string at the end to stall off a determined challenge by Starboard Light The latter was the runnerup through ¬ out and had no difficulty in getting the place over the favorite having four lengths to spare at the end Thistle Ann could never improve her position at any stage of the journey racing in third position The rest of the field including Sunstroke Sleepy Boy Particular and Skibo were never in the hunt finishing in that order orderThe The racing was concluded over a fast track and under skies that were a bit clouded For a Monday the attendance was excep ¬ tionally good goodOf Of the nine starters for honors in the threeeighths race that ushered in the sport for the afternoon Copper from the I Shafer stable scored an easy victory when he led home J A Emmersons KaiLo a rank out ¬ sider by four lengths with third going to Illumine from the A L Taylor stable when lie took the measure of the well backed Probate which raced for J W Armstrong ArmstrongProbate Probate was the one to set the pace and it was Illumine that was second with Copper racing along right at their heels The others were in fairly close order in back of the trio for the first half mile of the journey Turning into the stretch Copper readily over ¬ took the pair in the van of him and once in command opened up a good lead and the finish found him going away KaiLo got up in the last few strides to earn second by a head while Probate was tiring steadily and just staved off Ella Rufus RufusIMlOmTER IMlOmTER A SURPRISE SURPRISESix Six smart sprinters of the better grade furnished the contention for the threequar ¬ ters third race and a mild surprise developed when the Brandywine Stables Prompter de ¬ feated Mrs K E Hitts Sunvir the well supported choice by a length Third was landed by Circulet the representative of the Seagram Stable while Mosselle S was an exceedingly close fourth Prompter away in good fashion raced within challenging distance of Circulet for the first half mile and when the Seagram starter began falter ¬ ing as the stretch was reached the Brandy wine starter readily gained command and in a drive through the final furlong withstood the rush of Sunvir SunvirE E F Sanfords Friar raced to his fifth vic ¬ tory in seven starts and made his inaugural debut on Canadian soil an auspicious one when he accounted for the five furlongs of the South Hull Purse the number of sec ¬ ondary importance on todays program Sec ¬ ond to the winner and beaten two and onehalf lengths came Cock Robin from the R Whitney barn with third going to Bub ¬ bling Out from the Mount Royal Stable Friar was clearly the best as he was away slowly and had to make up a lot of ground He equaled the track record of 1 004S 004SIn In a thrilling drive that was waged for the length of the home stretch Surtees from the J Bosley barn was victorious in the mile test for platers that was the fourth offering F Slate made a brilliant ride to have the winner home a neck in advance of Stern Chaser with third going to Cyrano in the silks of T J OHara The latter two were saddled by G Thompson and raced coupled in the wagering Surtees was briskly sup ¬ ported He gave his backers considerable concern as the webbing was released when he propped and trailed along in last place until midway of the back stretch
