WRACKELL WINS MEMORIAL Only Two Others Go in Feature Race at Connaught Park Free Gate for Ladies Attracts Largest Week Day Crowd of Meeting Friar Equals Track Record in Second OTTAWA Ont June 9 For today fourth day of the spring term of racing at Connaught Park the offering that occupied the star position on the sevenrace program was the mile and seventy yards named the E S Houston Memorial the fifth race of the day Only three started when two others that vere entered were found to be ineligible Wrackell from the R H New barn raced to an easy victory After overcoming inter ¬ ference early he finished the route leading Ima Hat from the P M Sturm barn by two and onehalf lengths while Pomfret stopped to practically a walk to trail ten lengths further back Wrackell was a strong choice choiceAlthough Although slight drizzles of rain fell during the afternoon a big gathering witnessed the sport The fair sex through a free gate added greatly to the increased attendance by far the best of any previous day except ¬ ing Saturday SaturdayFallen Fallen Leaf made it two In a row when she carried the Missouri Stables colors to an easy victory in the threequarters first race Toltec which carried the bulk of support finished second with Son Ami third Due to the bad post manners of Chris Paschen the start was delayed several min ¬ utes but start Wingfield had them away in good alignment with Toltec showing the way Apprentice W Day took the winner under slight restraint and followed in close pursuit They raced in this order for the opening quarter As they left the half mile ground King Halma dropped back and Son Ami supplanted him in third position It was not until they had reached the stretch that Fallen Leaf wore down Toltec which had dropped back to second place He easily maintained this position until the end where he followed the winner across the line two lengths back His margin over Son Ami for second place was a half length lengthThe The Weque Stables Regular Feller ac ¬ counted for the fiveeighths second race when he scored over a formidable band of juveniles Masters Rose was second and Nervator third The occasion marked the first victory here of jockey M Meyer as well as the first at this track for the colt Which is a son of Flying Ebony Due to his sensational morning trials the winner at ¬ tracted heavy support at the track and this with the money that came back to the track from other cities cut deeply into his odds and made him the posttime favorite favoriteMiss Miss Zelpha showed the way leaving the stall gate and had a good margin as they rounded the turn However she bolted to the outside and it was at this point that the winner raced into a good lead There was a general closing up of the slow begin ¬ ners and Nervator which had been far out Continued on twentysecond page WRACKELL WINS MEMORIAL Continued from first page of it moved up into contention Masters Rose had displaced Miss Zelpha which lost an abundance of ground Nervator weakened after getting to second place gave Avay to the rush of Masters Rose as they neared the end and did well to outgame Lauhala for second place placeC C Bartsch furnished the winner of the threequarters third race when his Kings port gained a nose decision over E E Ma ¬ jors Charming Lady in a thrilling finish Western Princess was third The chances of Fleeting Fire were ruined by his fractious ness at the barrier and when the field was dispatched he was away tardily Rushed into contention he tired badly and failed to fin ¬ ish in the money moneyCharming Charming Lady raced into a good lead the opening half and it appeared as if she was going to maintain it to the end but as they entered the final eighth Kingsport moved to her and outgamed her getting up to win in the last few strides stridesSweepNet SweepNet joined the ranks of local win ¬ ners when she proved best of the band of inferior platers that competed in the one mile and onesixteenth fourth race Endor offered the most opposition and was second witli Thistle Boy third The winner heavily played raced in close attendance of the pace to the stretch where jockey Cavens put her to punishment and responding gamely sped by Bunthorne which was tiring badly and eventually gave way to the more successful ones Endor which was outrun the early stages gained rapidly during the final eighth and wore down Thistle J3py for second honors while the latter held JDngdmjery for third money
