I JAMAICA TURF NOTES # ■ ■■ 8 NEW YORK, N. Y., May 5. While the entries for the stakes that are to feature the racing of the New York State Fair at Syracuse in September are not to close until next Monday, there has already come a liberal response from the foremost sportsmen of the state. William Woodward, chairman of The Jockey Club, has made twenty entries for his Belair Stud Stable and others that have named several are Joseph E. Widener, W. A. Harriman, of the Arden Farms; Robert L. Gerry, Marshall Field, Rolling Plains Stable, Cornelius Van-derbilt Whitney and Mrs. George Read, who has named her good juvenile Hugh McCal-lan Jr. in the event for two year-olds. Jockey A. Robertson arrived from Maryland and reported to trainer Healey of the C. V. Whitney stable. Jockey F. Weiner accepted his first mount of the season when he rode Billy Blake in the first race. Weiner decided to stage a comeback after trying his hand as a trainer for a short period. L. McAtee will leave for Baltimore on Friday night. He will ride one of the Greentree starters in the Preakness, probably Surf Board. The second Waite starting gate, which will be used at Belmont Park, is in course of assembly at that point. Morstone, according to Clarence Buxton, will be shipped to Louisville Monday, May 11.
