— I BAINBRIDGE TRACK HEAVY • Gertrude Reade Leads Throughout in Days Main Race. ♦ Clayton Morris* Sporting Maudie Graduates From Maiden Ranks — Ladies Day Responsible for Big Crowd. ♦ CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 25.— There was no special feature down for decision at Bainbridge Park this afternoon, but interest centered in the running of the fourth race, over one mile, in which W. J. Henflings Gertrude Reade led throughout. Title Oak furnished the contention for the entire race, pressing the winner closely for the leadership in the first quarter. Thereafter Gertrude Reade was never in serious trouble, and Title Oak retained a safe margin over the others. Hula, after suffering early interference and being crowded back going to the first turn, steadily improved her position and raced into third place easily in the stretch. A heavy track prevailed for the races, but the sun shone brightly for the first time since last Thursday. It was Ladies Day, and the attendance was up to the standard for this course. Large fields paraded in all the seven races, and the sport was interesting. Clayton Morris Sporting Maudie graduated from the maiden ranks when she raced past a field of twelve two-year-olds during the stretch run of the third race, and won with considerable to spare. Magna Mater, Sample Ballot and Esplanade raced closely bunched, contesting the leadership to the stretch, but when the final drive came Magna Mater proved gamest and outstayed Sample Ballot for second. Esplanade tired badly in the last furlong, and the others were never serious factors. Old Bill accounted for the fifth race. Staccato showed the way for half the distance, with Old Bill in closest attendance. Approaching the stretch turn jockey Frog-gatte sent the veteran up on the outside of Staccato, and, after taking command, Old Bill held Nervator safe in the stretch run. Nervator raced up to the winner a furlong out, but was not good enough. Wattahorse, finishing resolutely, outlasted the tiring Staccato in the stretch for third. A surprise occurred when the Keene-land Studs Oderic, an outsider, romped home to an easy victory in the initial dash. Miss Canopy led to the far turn, after which Continued on second page. BAINBRIDGE TRACK HEAVY Continued from first page. Oderic took command and he increased his advantage during the stretch run. Eye White, steadily improving his position after going half the distance, outstayed Mischievous for the second honors after a keen stretch struggle. Miss Canopy tired badly and the others were never serious factors. Closing with a brilliant burst of speed next the inner rail during the stretch run, Punkie overhauled the leaders during the final furlong of the second race and retained a length advantage through the last seventy yards. Chris Paschen made a strong challenge, racing on the outside when straightened out for the run home and in the final drive outlasted Your Flag. The latter was installed favorite and raced well up for much of the trip, but failed when the final test came. Red Grange led to the final furlong, then gave up. W. J. Henfling made it a double when Interior came with a brilliant rush through the stretch in the sixth and under a powerful finish by jockey Mozer, nosed out Voyage in the final stride. Interior was last many lengths in the rear during the first half mile. Voyage wrested the lead from Sesqui when entering the stretch and held on with rare courage when called upon for the final effort. Sesqui was doing his best at the end to save third from the fast closing My Scoop. Lucky Drift, the early leader, quit to a walk in the last quarter.
