A - - - - HOMEWOOD, 111., May 29. — Gallant Knight, the winner of the Grainger Memorial Handicap and maker of a new worlds record for six and one-half furlongs during the recent Churchill Downs meeting, will make his first appearance this year before Chicago enthusiasts when he contests for the ,000 added Robert M. Sweitzer Handicap, at Washington Park, Saturday. In this, his first essay at a Chicago course since his narrow defeat by Gallant Fox in the Classic Stakes at Arlington Park last summer, the crack Audley Farm four-year-old is to meet such formidable company as Mike Hall, winner of more than 00,000 and the last Agua Caliente Handicap, Lady Broadcast, Paul Bunyan, Tannery, Lightning Bolt, Royal Julian, Jean Lafitte and Miss Bess at one mile and one-eighth. This should result in one of the most interesting contests of the season, but still another stakes attraction is offered in the Memorial Day racing at the Homewood track in the renewal of the Debutante Stakes, also of ,000 added, and for juvenile fillies. The distance will be at five and one-half furlongs, and the juvenile queens named to start are headed by Joseph Leiters Princess Ivre, winner of the Hinata Stakes at Lexington. Under top weight of 119 pounds, and assisted by Princess A. A., a likely stable companion, she will match strides with Gala Flight, a highly regarded daughter of Sir Gallahad III., and a full sister to Insco; Light Eagle, Givanna, I Say, Chu Chu, Uma and others, twelve being named through the entry box Friday. In his bid for Sweitzer Handicap honors, Gallant Knight is asked to carry the towering impost of 126 pounds, and he will be making great concessions to all of his rivals. Mike Hall is in at 120 pounds, while Paul Bunyan. Dixie Handicap winner, is to carry 115 pounds, and Lady Broadcast 113 pounds. All of the seasoned stars are at their best, and while Gallant Knight is certain to rule favorite if the running is over fast footing, he is expected to encounter the strongest sort of contention, and has a real task before him.
