DOUBLE FOR GENESEO STABLE » Luggage and Rubio Triumph in Feature Races at Woodbine. 1 Queens Hotel and Prince of Wales Handicaps Main Attractions — Judge Bart-lett Repeats Easily. • TORONTO, Ont., May 29.— The Geneseo Stable was very much in the limelight at the Woodbine course of the Ontario Jockey Club today, the semi-final day of the present meeting, when Luggage made an auspicious debut to account for the Queens Hotel Handicap. Rubio, another of the Geneseo racers, carried off the major prize in the Prince of Wales Handicap, which was offered as the next best contest of the afternoon. In addition to winning the Queens Hotel Handicap in easy fashion, Luggage, a strapping son of The Porter — Weary, equaled the track record for the distance when he ran the distance in the fast time of 1:43%. The Queens Hotel Handicap preceded the Prince of Wales Handicap, and from a good start Peto, bearing the Belair Stud silks, was quickest to get into his stride, and showed the way for the first seven furlongs. Blimp furnished the contention, while Soil Gills, a member of the Seagram Stable, raced along lapped on the pair. Luggage was next, while Bad News Bob and Red Briar were in the rear but racing close up. Leaving the back stretch Luggage moved up to supplant Blimp, and on reaching the turn for home had taken command. Thereafter he just cantered along to be returned the victor by four lengths. Bad News Bob, in a belated spurt, took second place, while Red Briar got up in time to beat Soil Gills for third. Rubios victory in the Prince of Wales Handicap came in clean-cut fashion when, racing back of the fast pace set by Khora-san, he moved up with his winning challenge at the final furlong post. Once in command he never left the result in doubt to win by two and one-half lengths. Khora-san managed to land second honors, while Donny Johnny earned third. The Thick Thorn Steeplechase, at two miles, over seventeen jumps, furnished opportunity for Nazor, from the Eastland Farm Stable of C. V. B. Cushman to earn brackets when he completed the distance a length before Willingdon of the ousta Farm Stable and John Sobieski, an easy third over Marcella, from the Brier Farm Stable, and G. F. Perrys Gold Trap. J. Bosleys Huon Joy went lame going to the twelfth jump and he failed to complete the course, being pulled up by P. Haines. Suntica, held at short odds, emerged victorious over a shifty band of juveniles that I met in the four furlongs and a half of the opening event. The score came in a mild • drive when she led home C. V. Whitneys Marlene by a length and a half. R. S. McLaughlins Sheila Wood drove into third place to lead home J. W. Garths Runfire j and the six others that started. F. H. Schelkes Judge Bartlett gave further , evidence of his present good form when he led a good band of distance performers for ] the duration of the one mile and a sixteenth , race that was styled the Gateside Plate and which was down for decision as the fifth. ; This saw five others starting, and second fell to Eager Play, from the Seagram Stable. 1 Montanaro was an easy third over Spanish, from the Geneseo Stable. Judge Bartlett set a fast pace that car- i ried him into a commanding lead when moving into the back stretch and, thereafter, he raced along under steadying restraint I until approaching the turn for home. Aimers, I to make victory certain, went to the whip, i and the Schelke starter responded readily to ! reach the end two lengths in the van of the 1 Seagram racer, while Montanaro was four I lengths further back. The J. E. Smallman stable earned its ] daily purse when Sea Kale scored over a poor band of homebreds, which started in the sixth, for which he was the favorite. His score was earned in a drive when he lasted ] to beat Lady McNeill, from the Riverdale Stable, by a half length, while Mrs. W. Russells Sergeant Major had little trouble in landing third before The Hovel, from the Wild Rose Farms.
