ASCOT GOLD CUP BY A NOSE Trimodon Wins Englands Famous Race From Singapore in Sensational Finish. Special Cablegram. ASCOT HEATH, England, June 18.— Brig.-Gen. Charles Lambtons Trimodon won the Ascot Gold Cup by a nose today, taking the famous race away from Lord Glanelys Singapore in a driving finish that was witnessed by the King and Queen and the years most fashionable gathering. Mrs. Arthur James Salmon Leap led the others of the field of ten to the wire, five lengths behind the first two. The winner paid 3 to 1, while Singapore was 6 to 1 in the betting, and Salmon Leap 100 to 8. The favorite was the Aga Khans Ut Majeur at 9 to 4. The Granville Stakes, over five furlongs, was won by Mrs. Alastair Mackintoshs Lone Isle. Balance, owned by Lord Woolavington, took second place, and J. P. Hornungs Fear-som ran third. Ten horses ran. Lone Isle was a length and a half ahead at the finish and Balance was two lengths ahead of Fearsom. The betting on Lone Isle was 100 to 8, while Balance was 9 to 2 and Fearsom 10 to 1. The favorite was Sir Abe Bailys Portlaw at 2 to 1.
