MAILLIW, close up throughout, went wide into the stretch and finished gamely. JUSTA SHEIK, unable to keep up early, made up ground under punishment. BAG O ROSES finished with a rush. RIPPLING lacked early speed, but went to the outside in the stretch and wore down LADY McNEILL in the last strides. The latter forced the pace of the winner most of the way, but tired. AIRDROME raced close up early, but tired badly under pressure. ROSE LADY lacked speed. BRAZE ALONZO was never prominent. Scratched— 606102Varsity, 115. Overweight — Rose Lady, 1 pound. ANCODA, shuffled back early, went to the outside in the stretch and, closing with a rush, wore down TONEYS STAR in the last few strides. The latter disposed of MARCH MYSTIC and, taking a good lead, tired slightly in the last few yards. CRYOUT closed fastest of all after being knocked back at the start. OPIOPIO. on the outside throughout, loomed up menacingly entering the stretch, but failed to respond to punishment. TUCKAHOE raced well throughout. MARCH MYSTIC showed good speed until reaching the stretch, where she tired badly. LIVE ONE was going fast in the la*t quarter after starting slowly. PADDOCK drew into command in the opening eighth, opened up a long lead and his rider was looking back all through the stretch. CAPTAIN J. S. followed the winner closest of all all the way, came wide in the stretch and was never able to offer a serious bid. BLUE CANOPY made up ground, came through on the inside through the stretch and was up in the last few strides to catch SAM COLE. The latter, shuffled back at the start, was sent into contention on the outside of the field and tired in the stretch run. BOBBIE R. went well and had no excuses.
