PAIRBYPAIR lost little time in getting to the front and, under a well judged ride, was never in serious danger. BRAVE AND BOLD, a factor from the start, held MEXICO safe. The latter, in close quarters approaching the stretch turn, came gamely when clear. MARMION attempted to bolt at the start, but raced well after being straightened out and was going fast at the end. MONKS FIRST and PORTDEN had early speed, but tired. TEXAS KNIGHT was in close quarters after the start and never threatened. CONTRITION, well rated early and jumping well, took the lead after going one turn of the field and held the others safe thereafter. AUTUMN BELLS was carried wide at times and made an occasional bobble, but was good enough to hold the others. FICHET set the pace, but could not keep up. CHARMARTEN dropped back when the real racing beean. PROOF POSITIVE was far back when she fell at the ninth jump. TASSEL broke down badly after taking the eighth fence and was pulled up. The latter, showing the most early speed, opened up a good lead soon after the start, but could not resist the winner. WAYNE raced forvvardly, but was tiring at the end. HOT TODDY set the pace and held on fairly well when challenged. CALF ROPER was tiring, but lasted to hold VALENCIENNES. The latter showed little, although making up some ground in the stretch. STICK AROUND raced close up on the inside and was in close quarters several times, finally being knocked out of it when MAYA, racing slightly in advance of him, lost his rider.
