f HAMILTON, ONT., TURF NOTES f $ —§ HAMILTON, Ont., June 29. Jockey R. Townrow, who formerly rode for H. Giddings and of recent years as a freelance, has contracted to ride for Fred Wheatcroft, owner of the Greencroft Stable, and the lad will depart for Vancouver, B. C., where he is to join the stable of his contract employer. The directors of the Hamilton Jockey Club notified secretary J. P. Turner that in future the limit of the fields for the six furlongs races will be reduced to ten starters. It was found that twelve could not be accommo dated in a manner to secure a good start without undue crowding, and the change will prove beneficial to both horsemen and the general public. The same number of starters will apply to the five and five and one-half furlongs starting points. Word was received from Toronto that G. W. Beardmore, owner of the Briar Farm Stable, is recovering from a recent attack of illness. Beau of the West, former star Canadian-bred of the Seagram Stable, has been relieved of his duties as a racer. He, however, will not be a total loss to the turf, as he will be used as an exercise pony. Jockey W. Curran received his second fine of the meeting when he aroused the ire of starter Cassidy Saturday, for which he was punished to the extend of 5. Curran was set back 0 on Thursday by the stewards for failing to keep a straight course with Dark Abbot. G. M. Hendrie, former chairman of the Canadian Racing Association, was a visitor to witness the performance of his homebred juvenile, Ortona in the opening event today. Jockey H. Louman, for rough riding and causing interference to Chile Gold while astride Bill Nora in the third race Friday, was fined 5 and suspended for the remainder of the Hamilton Jockey Club meafr ing.
