The latter saved ground in the early stages, went around the leaders entering the stretch and was wearing down the winner. The latter, fractious at the post, began alertlv from outside the machine and was prominent all the way. SEMI PRECIOUS had no excuses. JEAN BROWN and SOCIAL BEE finished with a rush. ALL PLAY tired after showing early speed. LAST BID was bumped off stride at the start. JAMES RIVER moved into contention with a rush racing out of the chute and, steadied behind the leaders until entering the stretch, raced MAKE SPEED into defeat and, opening up a good lead, tired and Just lasted. EL PUMA, on the inside all the way, suffered interference, but responded gamely in the closing eighth and would have won in another stride. MAKE SPEED outbroke the others, saved ground and held on resolutely. SINGLE KAY closed gamely under punishment. FULL SWING tired after three-quarters. BROWN WISDOM, away forwardly and steadied behind the leaders until the Final quarter, gained fast on the outside and, wearing down VANDER POOL, was up to win in the closing strides. VANDER POOL, close to the leaders all the way, shook off FRENCH LASS at the eighth post and took a clear lead, but his rider was caught napping. FRENCH LASS forced a fast early pace and raced CLAREMONT into defeat in the first half mile, then challenged gamely, but was not good enough. JUDGE SCHILLING could not improve his position.
