ATTRACTIONS AT MIAMI AND FAIR GROUNDS TODAY 9 f Jockey Club Handicap at One Mile and a Quarter Feature at Hialeah Edgewater Gulf Hotel Claiming Sweepstakes Head-liner at Popular New Orleans Course Good Fields for Both Purses MIAMI, Fla., Feb. 12 For the Saturday feature of the Miami Jockey Club at Hialeah Park the offering is the Jockey Club Handicap, a test of a mile and a quarter, to which ,000 is added. This is the best of the prizes for three-year-olds and upward and the overnight acceptances promise a field of seven. Herbert M. Woolfs Lady Broadcast, top weight under a burden of 126 pounds is not one named and it leaves Mrs. John Hay Whitneys Lightning Bolt at the top with 117 as his burden. This good son of Wrack has been brought back to his best form, as was evidenced by his recent victory in the Hialeah Park Handicap and he seems to have earned his impost. From 11T pounds the weights drop down to 112 that F. A. Carreauds good mare Kincsen will have to carry. Her race behind Lightning Bolt, in the Hialeah Park Handicap would seem to make, her the natural contender. Desha Breckenridges Royal Ruffin, under 104 pounds, is sure to have a following and it is confidently expected Frank Grossmans Waterway will improve. Others in the field have all shown winning form and the mile and a quarter is a distance calculated to bring out what is best in any thoroughbred. The following are the scheduled starters in the Jockey Club Handicap: Horse. Wt. Rider. Sunfire 105 J. Renick Kincsen 112... C. Corbett Royal Ruffin J.04 H. Callahan Impish 103 H. While only a small field accepted for the race, the ,500 Edgewater Gulf Hotel Claiming Sweepstakes, feature on tomorrows program at the Fair Grounds, is bringing together, at a mile and one-sixteenth, some capable and seasoned campaigners and an interesting contest should result. Silverdale, fading star of other seasons, yet still of the shifty sort, is in the field and is expected to rule favorite. His company will include the consistent winners Prose and Poetry and Prince Pest, looked upon as the chief contenders, also Mine Sweeper, Glidelia, Black Fool and Frumper. Under the weights, regulated by the entered claiming price, Prose and Poetry carries top weight of 116 pounds and Silver-dale, also entered for the top price, but with the apprentice allowance claimed for him, will pack 111 pounds. Prince Pest is in at 114 pounds and others at 109 each. Two extremely smart races are offered in support of the claiming stakes. They are the John T. Connery Purse, or third race, in which Rusty, Hyman, Supreme Sweet, Abdel and other speedy sprinters are to clash at three-quarters, and the fourth race, or Edge-water Beach Hotel Purse, in which the three-year-olds Bertjohn, Springsteel, Jimmy Sutro, Crystal Prince and Flaunt will meet at a mile. The occasion will mark the annual Edge-water Day and a number of visitors from Edgewater Gulf and Biloxi, together with officials of the Edgewater hostelries are coming over for the days sport.
