Successful Racing Stables of 1931 1 Sun Beau, the worlds leading money winning horse, won 10,925 during 1931, which was 00,635 more than was won by any oth er horse running in the colors of Willis Sharpe Kilmer. Yet Sun Beau won only one race more than fell to the lot of Suntica. a then two-year-old filly by the sire of Sun Beau and Sun Friar. Sun Beau won nine races, Suntica eight, and the latters total for the season was 0,290. The other Kilmer winners turned in comparatively small amounts. Dark Magnet, a filly, was third with three victories and ,790. The remaining winners in the stable were Sunmelus, Dark Seeker, Sun Memory, Dark Mist, Sun Teatime, Briar Hawk and Sun Falcon. Altogether, the Kilmer horses won thirty-three races and accounted for ten seconds and eighteen thirds. The stables winnings amounted to 41,980. Sun Beaus richest race in 1931 was the Arlington Handicap, worth 7,300. It will be recalled that all races of real value that he won were on the Chicago tracks. Second in value was the Lincoln Handicap, 1,000; then the Hawthorne Gold Cup, 0,700, and the Arlington Cup, 9,400. While the eastern Sun Beau was invading the West and completing a worlds record, several of the stake horses belonging to Mrs. John Hertz were giving a good account of themselves in the East. No other strictly mid-western horses were so conspicuous in eastern stakes as those of Mrs. Hertz. Risque won the Alabama Stakes at Saratoga. Valenciennes won the Havre de Grace Handicap, the Ladies Handicap at Belmont Park and finished third in the Southern Maryland Handicap and Bowies Thanksgiving Handicap. Pairbypair, a colt, finished third in the Richard Johnson Stakes to Burning Blaze and Tick On, two of the most successful juveniles of 1931. Mrs. Hertz horses won stakes on the Chicago tracks also. Risque won the Arlington Matron Stakes and Pairbypair the Hyde Park Stakes. Risque was the stables leading winner, with 0,580 to her credit; then came Valenciennes with 6,850, and Pairbypair with 3,775. Sir Ashley won four races, including the Empire City Derby and Knickerbock er Handicap, for a gross of 3,758. Faireno was second in money won, with six victories, including the Junior Champion Stakes and Nursery Handicap. Frisius won the King Edward Gold Gup and the Toronto Cup Handicap. Pardee won the Oakdale Claiming Handicap. Some of the others which ran a number of firsts, seconds and thirds and gave the Belair Stable a total of 9,398 were Ormesby, Flaming, Peto, Cholla and Friendly Gal.
