NEALON KAY, racing in his best form, improved his position on the outside in the early stages and, closing with a rush in the stretch, wore down BLACK DOVE in the final strides. BLACK DOVE showed keen speed and raced THE GEN into defeat and drew away entering the stretch, then tired. WESTKO, under pressure throughout, responded gamely and outlasted THE GEN. The latter, in close attendance of the leader, saved ground throughout. STELLANOVA finished resolutely. COOTS, a factor from the start, was pinched back when he endeavored to come through between the leaders at the eighth post. BOUNDING DEEP raced evenly. DUSKY DAME, fractious at the post, began rapidly from the outside and, opening up a long lead in the first quarter, was overtaken when shaken up too late. DARK WAR, quickest to get going and hard urged throughout, was unable to improve her position in the stretch. ANIMATE, SOCIAL BEE and NUTTING raced clear of interference. MANASSAS, away fast and showing the most speed, was steadied in front and, shaking off repeated challenges from LAPIDARY and LANSON on the turn, drew away entering the stretch, then tired and was hard ridden to withstand BROADWAY LIGHTS. The latter began very slowly, worked his way up on the outside for three-quarters, then, coming through between the leaders entering the stretch, finished with a rush. IRON CZAR, racing forwardly all the way, responded gamely under punishment and outlasted LUCKY JACK. The latter, away slowly, came through on the inside and moved up resolutely entering the stretch. The latter began in close quarters and was unable to secure racing room in the early stages, moved up fast when clear and appeared to be the winner, then tired in the stretch. MEMORIES DEAR, always prominent and saving the most ground, tired in the last eighth and just managed to outstay WAR SAINT. WAR SAINT, close up for half a mile, bore out entering the stretch, then came again under punishment. HAMILTON and PARNELL BOUND were carried very wide on the stretch turn. The latter began slowly. ISLAM, under steadying restraint the first half mile, moved up gradually on the outside around the turn and, responding gamely through the stretch, shook off DANCING MACK the last sixteenth mile. The latter began fast, but was outrun, although in closest pursuit of the leader throughout. He made a game effort in the stretch, but weakened suddenly in the last seventy yards. MARTIS, well up and saving ground the entire trip, was blocked when he tried to steal through on the inside in the stretch run, came to the outside in the final sixteenth mile and was going fastest of all at the end. RACCOON hustled to the front set a fast early pace, but quit when challenged. DUCHESS OF MARLBOROUGH, under pressure for three-quarters, was unable to improve her position and was then eased up. CATHERINE FOX, away forwardly, went forward under slight restraint until straightened out in the stretch, then closing determinedly under punishment, wore SHIVA down in the final drive. SHIVA stole through on the inside and assumed a short lead in the early stages, saved ground entering the stretch and drew away, but then faltered when challenged and placed under punishment. JAMES RIVER met with repeated minor interference the first three furlongs, he gained steadily when clear, and finished going strongest of all. ZEVAR, nearest in pursuit of the leader throughout, faltered in the stretch run. DON TASKER could never better his position. EL PUMA closed an immense gap through the stretch. STARBOARD LIGHT, a forward contender, but going extremely wide in the early running, finished with excellent courage through the stretch under punishment and got up in the last stride. FAIR BILL, steadily restrained until midway around the turn, moved up with a rush when called on and wore SAN PRESTO down through the stretch, but was unable to withstand the winners bid. SAN PRESTO, in close quarters the first five-eighths, went around HARAMZADA leaving the back stretch and took command, but then bore out after entering the stretch, which probably cost him the race. TOREALONG gained fast on the outside entering the stretch, but bore to the inside sharply and compelled SCARLET BRIGADE, HARAMZADA and YARGEE to pull up. Scratched 68525Morocco, 105.
