WISE ANNE SCORES IN NURSERY STAKES NUMBER 2 i KILMER FILLY SECOND Binghamton Sportsmans Colors Also Third in Miami Feature. Mintwina Saves Second From Stablemate, Dark Love, by Neck Sloppy Track Prevails. MIAMI, Fla., Feb. 25. Wise Anne, the juvenile daughter of Wise Counsellor and Zillah, which races for her breeder, W. C. Weant, gave evidence of being a good filly in sloppy going when she was a comparatively easy winner of the Nursery Stakes Number 2. This was the feature offering of the Miama Jockey Club at Hialeah Park this afternoon and it was a day of racing over the most difficult going that has prevailed all through the season. There were frequent heavy showers that drove a large crowd under shelter, but the track is so excellently constructed that in winning, Wise Anne ran the three furlongs of the feature, in the remarkable time of :34. A pair of Willis Sharpe Kilmer fillies were second and third when Mintwina took second place and Dark Love was a fast finishing third. Back of these and well lapped on them was C. V. Whitneys Fretwork. The prize had a net value of ,180 to the winner. The program opened with a promise that the clouds would blow over the track but this was not to be and there were several heavy showers, though the skies cleared again before the racing had been completed. This change in track conditions resulted in many late scratches. NINE STARTERS. Nine went to the post- for the Nursery Stakes Number 2 and it was Wise Anne that attracted the most attention, though both Fretwork and the Kilmer pair had a considerable following, so that the finish was almost indicated in the market. From, a good start Elston quickly took command with Wise Anne and Mintwina chased- after her, while Fretwork was in third place and going strongly. Oh Baby followed these and Dark Love was farther back, leaving from the outside stall. When well clear of the others, Elston took hold of Wise Anne slightly and, holding her straight, the result was never left in doubt and she won by two lengths. Fretwork tired when called on by Robertson, but the Kilmer pair hung on with good courage and Mintwina only saved second place by a neck from her stablemate, Dark Love, with the last named finishing in a fashion that would have seen her second in a few more strides. Fretwork was only another half length back, but she was tiring, though four lengths before Transen, the one to be fifth. DUNRODE WINS EASILY. Dunrode, the son of Dunlin and Melrode, that races for the .Brookmeade Stable, showed a decided liking for a heavy going when he was home an easy winner of the opening race for a cheap band of three-year-olds. Cholla, from the Belair Stud, raced to second place and M. E. Williams Sweepmar had no trouble saving third from Manassas. From a good start it was Cholla that went out to show the way and Dunrode went after her and was soon racing along under slight restraint. Discobolus headed the others and then came Line of Fire, one of which a good performance was expected. Dunrode had no trouble catching Cholla and in the stretch he came away until at the end he had a safe margin of five lengths. Sweepmar finished resolutely and was lapped on the tiring Cholla, being beaten only half a length for second place and Manassas was a distant fourth. There was no time that Line of Fire reached a contending position and it is possible he was handicapped in. the going. Eighteen plater juvenile colts and geldings started in the second race and Jack Howards Hernando, a son of Axenstein, was winner over H. C. Phipps Postponement, one that sold in the field group,, and F. A. Griffiths Flag View just saved third from Mrs. John H. Whitneys St. Christopher. There was a heavy shower just before the Continued on twenty-third page.. Corbett had the winner off in front and, hustling him all the way, he never surrendered the lead. Golden Planet was right with the winner leaving the stalls, but it was his first appearance under silks and he raced so greenly that he was soon out of serious contention. Postponement, beginning from the outside of the big field, had gone outside to gain fast to take second place. It was Warideroo, the C. V. Whitney starter, that was chasing after Hernando until a furlong from the finish, where he tired and dropped back rather badly. At the end Hernando had three lengths to spare, while Postponement, Flag View and St. Christopher were in close order as they followed him past the line.. J. M. Phillips Roan Antelope splashed his way to victory in the third race at one mile, which engaged a cheap lot of platers. Mrs. M. H. Segals Stretcher raced to second place and E. B. -McAtees Gibbys Choice saved third from E. R. Bradleys Chicsu. Stretcher was the one to jump into an early lead and Gibbys Choice was the one to go after him. After a flash of speed Crushed Stone dropped back from a contending position and Chicsu and Angry Plume were farther away. As Crushed Stone tired, Riley ran into a bit of trouble with Chicsu and he had to take the filly up slightly, but she was not -and -doubtless the interference striding freely slight had no bearing on the result.
