FLORIDA DERBY HOPEFULS Lucky Tom and Renaissance Display Excellent Form Over Muddy Track at Miami Course. MIAMI, Fla., Feb. 25. Lucky Tom and Renaissance, J. J. Robinsons candidates for the 0,000 Florida Derby, Saturday ploughed through mud fetlock deep for the full mile and a furlong route in 1:59 this morning at Hialeah Park. The two fleet sons of Master Charlie, arrivals from New Orleans yesterday, impressed observers by the smoothness and power of their move and they definitely established themselves as potent threats for the test which will establish the champion three-year-old of the winter campaign. Tony Pascuma was up on Lucky Tom and Harry Richards on Renaissance as the Robinson pair clicked past the poles in :25, :51, l:184i, 1:46 and 1:59. Lucky Tom, the speed horse of the pair, was in the van throughout. The going was much to his liking, for he is a proven mud-runner and his triumph in the Grand Union Hotel Stakes at Saratoga last summer was a smashing performance over a soft track. Track superintendent John Keegan predicts that the track will be fast for the Derby if no more rain falls, but if it does it will keep the strip in the sticky condition that will be made to order for Lucky Tom. Cathop, the half-brother to Mike Hall, which will represent R. M. Eastman, the Chicago sportsman, capped his brilliant public trial of a mile and a furlong in 1:51 la"st Saturday with a six furlongs gallop in 1:17 this morning. The swift son of Supremus was fighting for his head throughout the trip and appears ready for the race of his career. Sansarica, the son of the English Derby winner, Sansovino, racing for the Howe Stable, also turned in a three-quarters of a mile trial in 1:17.
