KNEBELKAMFS DERBY CHANCE Louisville Breeder Depending Upon Geldings Delivered and Hoops. Alec Gordon Going Along: Slowly With Sweeping Light at Douglas Park Oscillation Beady. LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 8. Col. William F. Knebelkamp, baseball magnate, breeder and racer of thoroughbreds, is quite encouraged this year on his chances of winning the Kentucky Derby. He has a double chance at the Derby with his two geldings, Delivered and Hoops. Just a few mornings agq he saw Delivered breeze a quarter of a mile over the Churchill Downs course in :24 and remarked when he did it -that the son of Lee O. Cottier was going to be a hard one to beat in the Derby. Delivered is about ready to take speed tests now, as he has been galloped all winter without interruption from the weather. The same day Delivered breezed at Churchill Downs, Hoops was the winner of the Sheridan .Park Purse at the Fair Grounds, New" Orleans. This brought more conversation from Colonel Knebelkamp. He said that while Hoops was running in the colors of Knebelkamp and Morris at the Fair Grounds, he was still registered as his horse in the secretarys office at the Fair Grounds.. He is going to remain my horse unless somebody comes along with about 0,000 for him. Since Hoops began to show his. true form, the experts have begun to sit up. and take notice. I told my agents at the Fair Grounds to nominate Hoops for the Louisiana Derby, but they did not think he. had enough class, so they left him out. That was a "boner," as I believe he can beat any three-year-old at New Orleans. "I had just enough confidence in Hoops ability to nominate him for the Kentucky Derby and see- if he does not run a good race in the. big. Churchill Downs race. I believe he is the best horse Midway has bred to-date and that he can beat Dick Morris doing anything. Hoops is sure to go on, as his recent efforts show," said Colonel Knebelkamp. Alec Gordon is . playing "Brer Fox" with Sweeping Light .at Douglas Park. He is giving the son of Manna, the English Derby winner a slow Derby prep. "No use in hurrying the black colt," said Gordon, as he has had a good track all winter and is now as hard as nails. His muscles have hardened and he is training perfectly." Sweeping Light will be stepping along from now until he is shipped to Jamaica in a few weeks. He will .be ready to fill his stake engagements at that course, especially in the Wood Memorial, which will be run about a week prior to the Derby. Oscillation, the filly trained by the veteran negro trainer W. H. Buckner, is probably the most advanced Derby candidate located at either of the Louisville tracks. Oscillation has already run halfs around :50 and is stretching out her works to the three-quarters. She is a grand looking filly. As this seems to be a filly year, it would not surprise many of the workwatchers around Douglas Park if the Longridge Stables representative did not make a good showing wherever she is asked to perform. She has been named for all the Derbys and Oaks around Chicago and that is evident proof this filly has shown plenty.
