NEW ORLEANS STAKES CLOSE New Orleans Handicap and Supplementary Entries for Louisiana Derby Close. NEW ORLEANS, La., March 8 Entries for the ,000 added New Orleans Handicap, last important race of the meeting for three-year-olds and older Performers, and supplementary subscriptions for the 0,000 added Louisiana Derby for three-year-olds, closed Saturday at midnight. The former will be renewed next Saturday at one mile and a furlong, and the Derby comes up for the first time at the Fair Grounds a week later, the closing day of the meeting. The result of the New Orleans Handicap may produce a candidate or two for the 0,000 Agua Caliente Handicap, to be run at Agua Caliente on the west coast, on March 20. It was learned today that owners of at least two of the leading New Orleans Handicap hopefuls may ship for the rich coast fixture if their candidates come through impressively in the final stake for older racers here. Weights for the New Orleans Handicap will be announced Wednes- daprominent among the reported acceptances are Spanish Play, Jimmy Moran, Bar-gello, Glastonbury, Prince Atheling, Bar Hunter and others. Jimmy Moran was victorious in the last running of "the fixture. Barring unexpected late subscriptions, the Louisiana Derby closed with forty-five eligibles, one of the largest lists of nominees in the record of the race, which up to this year featured the regular spring meeting at Jefferson Park. Eligibles include: Lucky Tom, Renaissance, Cathop, Texas Knight, Sir Melton, Jimmy Sutro, On Sir, Prince Farthing, Princess Camelia, Sazerac, Spring-steel, Hoops, Espinaca, Walter D., Bertjohn, and others of lesser prominence and the renewal promises the outstanding contest of the winter here.
