ENGLISH AMATEUR RULING Special Correspondence. ! LONDON, England W. P. Dutton, who recently set up as a trainer at Hednesford, has been notified by the stewards of the National Hunt Committee that he is entitled to continue to ride in races confined to amateurs. This question arose as the result of Mr. Dutton having ridden Slater at Sandown Park on February 3 in the Stanley Cup. The Sandown Park stewards asked Mr. Dutton why, having become a professional trainer, he rode Slater as an amateur. Mr. Dutton replied that he believed he was still entitled to ride in races confined to amateurs. The stewards were not satisfied, and they decided to refer the matter to the stewards of the National Hunt Committee for a ruling.
