RACING COMMISSION MEETS Dates for Lexington and Latonia Granted Open Claiming Rule Approved. LEXINGTON, Ky., March 19 The Kentucky State Racing Commission reappointed yesterday by Gov. Ruby Laffoon after the general assembly had failed to confirm the appointment, met today at the Phoenix Hotel, received new commissions and were sworm by Miss Leo McCulloch notary. The new commission has exactly the same membership as the old, and under the state law on recess appointments, will remain in office for two years. Col. Polk Laffoon of Covington was again elected chairman, and "W. E. Smith of Louisville vice-chairman. The other members are Stephen Sewell Combs of Lexington, Theodore E. Mueller of Louisville and Frazier D. Lebus of Lexington and Cynthiana. Getting down to business immediately, the commission approved the following dates, as requested by the Kentucky Association, Lexington, and the Latonia Jockey Club, Latonia: Lexington, Saturday, April 16, to Wednesday, April 27 ten days. Latonia, Saturday, June 25, to Saturday, July 30 thirty-one days. The Churchill Downs dates, April 30 to May 21, had already been approved. Dade Parks application for dates is expected later. Several changes in the commissions rules of racing were adopted, and it was stated after the meeting that a new book of the rules would be issued in a few weeks. The open claiming rule, under which horses may be claimed by anyone whether represented in the race or not, was approved. For Lexington and Dade Park a purse minimum of 00 and a minimum daily purse average of 00 per race were established. For Louisville and Latonia, the minimum for purses was set at 00 and the minimum daily purse average of 00.
