CHARITY DAY BIG SUCCESS Committee Thanks American Turf Association for Part in Raising Sum of 8,687.33 at Downs. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 17.— The considerable sum of 8,687.33 was realized from the one-day charity meeting held at Churchill Downs April 29, according to the final report of the Community Chest, as announced Monday by Preston P. Joyes, general chairman of the committee that directed the event. All of the money will be expended through the family service organization to relieve families of the unemployed of Louisville. On behalf of the committee, Mr. Joyes expressed gratitude for the service and cooperation of many business organizations and individuals, which made the occasion a success from every standpoint. The Community Chest executive committee enacted the following resolution: "Whereas, in the great need for the relief of our unemployed, the people of Louisville and its business interests have appreciated the necessity of contributing to the alleviation of suffering and have tried, conscientiously, to meet their responsibility, and "Whereas, the American Turf Association, animated by the desire to do its full share in this emergency, generously gave to the Community Chest the proceeds of a special day of racing at Churchill Downs, which resulted in the realization of 8,687.31, therefore be it "Resolved by the executive committee of the Community Chest that the generous cooperation of the American Turf Association in meeting this great emergency is very greatly appreciated and that, in this expression, the Community Chest speaks for the thousands of our citizens whose problems, if not wholly alleviated, have been greatly ameliorated by this special gift."
