Winns congratulations over the Preakness triumph of Burgoo King, winner of the Kentucky Derby, stated that if this son of Bubbling Over — Minawand maintains his present excellent condition, he will start in the twenty-fourth renewal of the American Derby, Saturday, June 18, at Washington Park. The message concluded with this statement: "I hope Burgoo King will be able to add the American Derby to his string." Colonel Winn has instructed Tom Young, Washington Parks track superintendent, to have in waiting special quarters for the present champion of the three-year-old division. It is the understanding that Burgoo Kings arrival for his Derby engagement will be at least ten days preceding that event. Colonel Bradley has other American Derby eligibles in Brother Joe, Bubble Up and Bertjohn. The first of two cars of Colonel Bradleys Idle Hour Farm racers arrived yesterday at Washington Park. This consignment came from Maryland. Another car will arrive today. William Hurley, in charge of the western division of this stable, came last night. He motored from Baltimore. Trainer Thompson will accompany Burgoo King on the journey from Belmont Park. Colonel Bradley will be along. He will be accompanied by a party from New York. Boxes have been reserved for the eastern delegation, also one that is coming from Kentucky. New York sportsmen ordered five Derby day boxes yesterday, which increases eastern reservations to fifteen boxes at this time. It is the belief of Colonel Winn that this years American Derby will attract more attention than in any other year.
