ORWELL STILL RULES FAVORITE Special Cablegram. LONDON, England, May 17.— At a call over of the Derby candidates at the Victoria Club, London, the Two Thousand Guineas winner Orwell was still a warm first choice in the betting. The Epsom classic will be run June 1. The colt, owned by the American sportsman, W. Mortimer G. Singer, was offered at 2 to 1, the shortest priced favorite since 1919, when The Panther went to the post for the Derby at 6 to 5, only to finish out of the money. Lord Roseberys Miracle, after his runaway victory in the Newmarket Stakes recently, was substantially supported at 19 to 2, half the odds that had been offered at the previous call over of the Derby card.
