PAN MAKES IT TWO STRAIGHT » Carries Clous Colors to Victory in Bainbridge Headliner. ♦ Big Crowd Turns Out on Ladies Day With Favorable Weather and Track Conditions Prevailing:. » CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 27.— Pan carried the colors of Leo Clous to victory in the Lakeshore Purse, the fifth and best offering at Bainbridge Park this afternoon, which marked his second success at this meeting. After being crowded back going to the first turn, Thomas Seth moved up gamely in the stretch and outfinished Satin Spinner for second. The latter raced prominently in second place until midway in the stretch and held on fairly well in the final drive. Hard Rock finished in fourth place after having shown early speed. Racing was staged under favorable conditions today. The track was at its best, the weather pleasant and a good crowd out. It was ladies day. The fields were large, evenly matched and productive of many interesting stretch struggles. Somewhat of a surprise came when Silver Wave led her opposition by a comfortable margin at all stages of the initial race. Tew-senelda, most fancied, was always in closest pursuit of the winner, but could never improve her position. From a slow beginning Jargon worked her way up in close quarters next to the inner rail and eventually out-finished Black Patricia for the minor award. Black Patricia was severely kicked by Ba-velle Fronk while at the post, which probably caused her to quit. E. J. OConnell saddled his first winner of the meeting when Doris B. raced past the leaders entering the stretch in the second race and had enough in reserve at the finish to withstand a determined challenge from Muslet. Nutting and Explode displayed early speed and fought for the lead heads apart to the stretch. In the final drive Nutting outlasted Explode for third. Lem-inistre unseated his rider before the start came and ran off half a mile riderless. Jockey R. Simpson, who had the mount, escaped injury. Beauty Bride attempted to make a runaway affair of the third race and appeared an easy winner on the turn for home. Eti-wanda finished steadily, however, in the stretch racing, and under keen urging by jockey R. Fischer, overhauled the Major filly in the last hundred yards and won going away. Beauty Bride retained a safe margin over the others. After gaining considerable ground, Joretta outstayed St. Mica for third. Kitty OWay was a factor to the stretch, then quit badly. Taking command shortly after the start, Justa Betty displayed the most speed of those engaged in the fourth, and was never seriously threatened. Northern Sir raced in second place throughout and held the others safe. Bag o Roses had no mishaps and in the final drive took third from Storm Angel. The latter went well to the stretch, then tired. * — ■
