NAMED FOR LATONIA DERBY William Woodwards Faireno Entry Among Many Nominations for Popular Fixture. LATONIA, Ky., May 27.— William Woodward, chairman of The Jockey Club, and owner of Gallant Fox, the winner of the 1930 Kentucky Derby, will be represented In the renewal of the Latonia Derby by Faireno. The son of Chatterton and Minerva, which won the Junior Championship, the Nursery Handicap and the Consolation Claiming Stakes as a two-year-old, was made eligible for the 5,000 added race at a mile and one-half yesterday. His nomination was one of the many received for the classic which is one of the seven stakes to be decided during the thirty-one days meeting, starting at Latonia, Saturday, June 25. At the same time, C. H. Knebelkamp and Richard Morris forwarded the nomination of Adobe Post. Although the son of Cherokee and Ruth S. was soundly beaten in the renewal of the Kentucky Derby, he has demonstrated since that race that he holds the upper hand over the rest of the western three-year-olds. Adobe Post has a victory at Churchill Downs and Washington Park to his credit since the running of the Derby and the racing establishment of Knebelkamp and Morris would . like to see the feat of Spanish Play repeated in this years Latonia classic. It was the son of Spanish Prince II. and Anna -iorton that showed the way in the 1931 race, much to the joy of Knebelkamp and Morris and Adobe Post will have the services of Charlie Landolt, who was astride Spanish Play. Incidentally, Spanish Play is eligible for the Enquirer and Independence Handicaps. Although the dates for the running of the seven stakes have not been announced, It is probable that the Latonia Derby will be run July 2, or the second Saturday of the meeting. This will give the racing fans of greater Cincinnati a fine week end of racing, for the Independence Handicap will be decided on the following Monday. George Collins will be represented in the Derby by Thistle Ace. At the same time he named Thistle Telee for the Latonia Oaks. Col. R. L. Baker overlooked naming Peggy Lehmann for the Kentucky Oaks, but the filly was named for the Latonia Oaks. Butter Beans, which cost J. M. Reed 75, later to be one of the leading two-year-old fillies of 1931 is another Oaks eligible. The St. Henry filly recently returned to training after a long rest and she will be prepared for her Latonia engagement here. With five days before the closing of the stakes on June 1, resident manager Russell Sweeney believes that this years nominations will greatly exceed that of 193L
