PILATE SULKED UNDER WHIP NEW YORK, N. Y., May 27— When Andy Schuttingers Pilate stopped so utterly in the stretch in the last race at Belmont Park Thursday, there was a report that he had broken down. Schuttinger said today that this report was in error. The colt came out of the running perfectly sound, and his stopping under the whip was purely a question of temper. Fator, who had the mount on him, said that Pilate was simply galloping back of Villon, and when he shook him up and did not respond he resorted to the whip. Then it was that Pilate swerved and refused to extend himself.
