SUBURBAN HANDICAP MOVES Gallant Knight, Faireno, The Nut : and Sun Meadow Given Final Preparatory Gallops. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 27.— Many of the candidates for the Suburban Handicap, the feature for Decoration Day at Belmont , Park, had useful finals this morning. Unfortunately during the early hours the big course was enveloped in a dense fog that prevented catching all of the horses at the various posts and some of those under saddle could not be timed accurately, but those that were "clocked" showed excellent moves. Gallant Knight, winner of the Dixie Handicap for B. B. Jones, was sent a mile and a quarter to finish the distance handily in 2:07%. He was timed the first mile in 1:43. Faireno, William Woodwards candidate, showed a worthy trial when his mile and a quarter was run in 2:08%. He ran the first half in :49, six furlongs in 1:15, mile in 1:41 and was being eased up at the end of the mile and a quarter in 2:08%. The Nut, from the Warm Stable, which has shown a return to form this season, was another to be sent the mile and a quarter. He ran a first half in :49, six furlongs in 1:15, mile in 1:41 and finished out the distance handily in 2:07%. Sun Meadow, which races for Mrs. K. E. Hitt, worked while the fog hung heavily over the course and it was impossible to catch his time, though his move was a mile and a quarter and he finished under restraint. This fellow was second to Gallant Knight in the Dixie and second to Equipoise in the Metropolitan, so there should be no doubht of his readiness for the Suburban. The Brookmeade Stables Flag Pole, which "Bob" Smith is getting ready for the Belmont, was another under saddle and he ran a mile and a half in 2:33V5, showing rather a sensational trial for the coveted classic. He ran his first half in :49%, six furlongs in 1:14%, mile in 1:40, mile and a furlong in 1:53, mile and a quarter in 2:06% and the distance in 2 33%. Sansarica, the candidate from the Howe Stable, which is meant for the Belmont, had an easy mile and a quarter in 2:12 as his task. He was in company with Gaelic Prince and was breezing all the way.
