BOATSWAIN AND GUSTO DUE TODAY With Their Arrival All Prospective Starters in American Derby Will Be on Hand for Saturdays Famous" Race at Washington Park HOMEWOOD, 111., June 15. With the arrival tomorrow morning from Aqueduct of William Jeffords slashing Man o War colt, Boatswain, winner of the Withers Stakes, and M. L. Schwartz Gusto, a son of Man o Wars good son, American Flag, and one of the most improved three-year-olds of the season, ail of the candidates for the 0,000 added American Derby, to be run at Washington Park will be at the scene of that great mile and one-quarter turf battle. Boatswain, probable favorite for Saturdays race, is 5 coming West in charge of Preston Burch, his trainer, and after filling the American Derby engagement, his most important of the year, goes back to New, York,- while Gusto and other of the eastern colts going to the post in Saturdays race remain in these parts for the remainder of the Washington Park meeting and the Arlington Park season. On the return trip to New York Boatswain will be accompanied by J. H. Louchheims Economic, which went amiss yesterday while having his next to final serious workout for the American Derby. Economic is out for the remainder of the year, according to M. Buxton, who assists his brother, Clarence, in the training of the Louchheim stable. When Boatswain, after meeting defeat by a small margin in the Preakness Stakes, easily accounted for the Withers Stakes, he moved to a position among the foremost three-year-olds, and carrying as he will top Weight of 126 pounds in the American Derby, a victory Saturday would place him on the top rung of the championship ladder. In the Withers he won from Osculator, Pair-bypair and others, including Burgoo King, the ill-fated winner of both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. In the Preakness Boatswain just failed to withstand Burgoo King and Tick On after making all the pace. It was his first big test of the year and many who saw the race were satisfied that only the more tightened condition of Burgoo King and Tick On, which a week before had contested the Kentucky Derby, was all that beat the son of Man o War. Stepenfetchit, the hope of Mrs. John Hay Whitney, was introduced to the Washington Park track this morning when trainer Jim Healy had the son of The Porter out for a limbering gallop on the muddy course.
