J WASHINGTON PARK NOTES 4, and Vespucci, juvenile bay son of Sand Mole and The Vestal II., by McKinley, startled work-watchers at Washington Park Sunday with the ease in which he worked a half mile in 48 seconds the first time he was asked for speed by owner J. O. Keene. Vespucci is one of the twenty-one horses Keene will offer at auction in the dispersal of his racing stable at Washington Park Friday morning and more than one capable judge is of the opinion he will top the sale. Jockey A. Pendergrass accompanied Guy Owens, who shipped his small stable to Winnipeg, to that Canadian racing center. JH. A. Neal leased the services of Hilton Dabson, a promising apprentice, and took the lad to Winnipeg, where the Neal horses are to be campaigned. Former jockeys E. Shropshire and W. Roussell were arrivals from Ne-v York. They hope to find employment with stables here. Howard Oots, who has one of the largest stables at Washington Park, came in this morning from his home at Lexington. He contemplates a short stay. Max Hirsch is expected from. New York Thursday. He will saddle M. L. Schwartz Gusto for the American Derby. Along with Gusto, due at Washington Park Thursday, Hirsch is shipping several other horses, all for campaigning at Washington and Arlington Parks. Miss Corinne and Dr. Higbde, owned by the Meadowbrook Farm and in charge of trainer W. Contner, arrived at Arlington Park from California. Jockey R. Leishman will take a vactioa during the interim before the opening of Arlington Park. He is with the G. D. Wide-ner stable. Joseph McLennan returns Thursday from New York and remains here for his duties at Arlington Park and Hawthorne until September I.
