MATE GALLOPS FAST MILE NEW YORK, N. Y., June 15. A. C. Bostwicks good four-year-old Mate is coming up to his engagement in the Brooklyn Handicap, Saturday, to entire satisfaction and there is a promise that the son of Prince Pal will be at his best for the mile and an eighth race. At Belmont Park this morning, through going that was muddy, he ran a handy mile in 1:39 and it was by long odds the most impressive move of the work hours. Pompeius was another that showed a fine turn of speed when he was sent along for five-eighths in 1:00. It was handily accomplished and he has all his speed.
