LONG BRANCH MEETING ENDS Humber Handicap Results in Upset, Scuttle Earning Purse. v The Point Also Does the Unexpected in Fourth Race Paddock Easily Best in Third. TORONTO, Ont, June 15 For the closing day of the meeting the Long Branch Jockey Club offered the Humber Handicap as a feature. This had a value of ,500 and attracted the small but well matched field of five to race one mile and seventy yards. The result was a surprise when A. C. Bostwicks Scuttle took the measure of the odds-on choice, Frumper, which races for Mrs. H. Pyne. C. V. Whitneys Banderlog raced into third place and Broadway Lights headed the only other starter, Khorasan. There was little delay at the post and the field went to the first turn, closely grouped, with Khorslsan taking a slight lead. Turning into the back stretch Khorasan was still out in front, with Broadway Lights and Banderlog next. On the far turn Khorasan began tiring and Banderlog forged to the front. Scuttle started to move up and Broadway Lights, tiring of the chase, also began to shorten stride N and dropped back. Frumper had started to move up but was on the outside and it cost him considerable ground. At the turn into the stretch Banderlog saved ground and still held a slight advantage. It was then that the Bostwick filly was called upon for her best and soon raced into the lead. OMalley had gone to the whip on Frumper and the latter began moving up on the outside and, despite travelling fastest of all at the end, was still a neck short of Scuttle as the winning mark was reached. Frumper, despite his stretch rush, only earned second place by a head from the Whitney representative. Scuttle equalled the track record, covering the distance in 1:43. Closing xlay saw another splendid throng out to witness the sport. Summer-like weather prevailed and fast time was displayed in the majority of the races. Continued on second page. LONG BRANCH MEETING ENDS Continued from first page. Form students had another inning in the j third, another six furlong dash, when Paddock raced to the easiest victory of the meeting. Patrick Callahan raced into second place, six lengths back of the winner and barely saving his part of the purse by a head from the neglected factor, Dewey Fly. The riding of Paddock was entrusted to J. Mattioli and the latter made no mistakes with the son of Pandion. Paddock had the most speed, opening up a good lead in the first furlong and Mattioli rated him along under restraint. Patrick Callahan was in second place. Paddock was released from restraint straightening out in the stretch and drew away with every stride and was far in front as the finish line was crossed. Patrick Callahan tired in the. final furlong from tryj- ing to catch the leaders and just lasted for second. The Point, fleet son of Apex and Much Ado, that races for A. Hullcoat, equalled the track record for three-quarters when he traversed the distance in 1:12 to score by four lengths over the Tedlu Stables Rollin In. The Pasadena Stables Black Diamond defeated the choice, Pennate, a nose for the show award.
