LEADING AMERICAN JOCKEYS J. Gilbert, finally taking advantage of G. Elstons enforced absence from competition, moved into second place in the jockey standing by winning with five of his twenty-two mounts last week. H. Mills is riding with scant success, so Gilbert has a splendid opportunity to go to the front if he continues in good form on the Maryland tracks. One of his winners last week was Swivel, in the Pimlico Futurity. Two interesting contests are being waged lower down in the list, W. D. Wright leading B. Hanford for fifth place by only two victories, and G. Smith and D- Meade being tied for eighth place. All these jockeys rode winners last week. L.
