CITRON, racing strongly in the early stages, displaced SPAR without effort going to the sixth fence, raced strongly under restraint thereafter and was never let down. ERIC THE RED, allowed to race under restraint while saving ground at his fences, challenged gamely at the twelfth jump, but was held perfectly safe. SPAR raced close up and had no mishaps. PATRICKS DAY II. almost unseated his rider at tht first fence, fell back steadily thereafter and djd not figure seriously. RASH MOMENT had no mishaps. SARDANEZA lost his rider at the second fence and JILTED his at the tenth. Scratched— 80986 Creek, 152; 70646 War Eagle, 138. ONCE, worked his way up gradually when urged, went to the outside in the stretch and was up to win in the concluding strides. RISNEUR propped at the start, then came through between the leaders on the stretch turn, took command, but was not good enough. PELHAM finished gamely. SURETY challenged gamely on the last turn, but tired. PRINCE WICK and WESTYS LAD were used up making the pace. LORD RAGLAN quit. Scratched— 80985 Good Sense, 110. The latter, racing forwardly, challenged repeatedly and held on well. PEEDEEQUE, placed to punishment early, came through cm the inside on the stretch turn, struck soggy footing midway of the stretch, but finished gamely. TAUNTON, under pressure all the way, but forced wide, tired in the final eighth. PIMOCHIO raced gamely. LEIF ERICSON and LAURETTA NASH showed little. GOOD ADVICE, forcing a stiff pace and on the outside of the winner, made a strong effort and held on vigorously through the final drive. ILLUSIVE, away quickly, could not keep pace with the leaders, but finished strongly in the final drive. SPRINGSTEEL, out in the better footing all the way, Closed gamely. Won easily ; second and third driving. « HEAD PLAY, fractious and unable to be placed in the stall, was sent to the outside, where he began fast and, outrunning the others to the first turn, was well rated in front, shook off several bold challenges fiom LADYSMAN and then drew out easily in the last quarter. LADYSMAN, racing resolutely while in the thick of contention, challenged gamely leaving the back stretch, but was no match for the winner in the stretch drive and had to be hard urged to withstand UTOPIAN. The latter, favored by the early pace, worked his way up on the outside, then finished resolutely. POMPONIUS improved his position and finished gamely. INLANDER could not endanger the leaders. KERRY PATCH, finding racing room all the way, entered contention smoothly, but tired in the closing three-sixteenths. DE VALERA began dropping back on the back stretch.
