BOND PURSE TO 6AIGD0RA Baigneur Gelding Draws Away as Arab Tires in the Stretch. Success of S. H. Hersberg Racer Marks Double for Jockey Klein Gurgler Is Thistle Down Winner. CLEVELAND, Ohio, Aug. 2 S. H. Hersbergs Baigdora displayed a return to his best form when he outran his opposition at all stages of the Bond Purse, fifth and principal event at Thistle Down Park this afternoon. Jockey R. Klein rated the son of Baigneur along in front nicely until the stretch was reached, then drew away into a clear lead and was never in trouble thereafter. . Arab forced the pace under urging until midway of the stretch, with The Break close up. When the final test came Cliftons Queen came with her accustomed rush on the outside and raced into second place in the last hundred yards. The Break secured the minor award as Arab tired badly at the end. The victory of Baigdora marked a double for jockey R. Klein. Ideal conditions prevailed today. The weather was much cooler, which was a welcome relief. The attendance was of average mid-week proportions. Evenly balanced fields went postward in a majority of the seven events, which provided interesting sport. Taking command shortly after the start, Gurgler was never headed during the running of the fourth race. He was tiring rapidly at the end, however, and barely lasted to earn a close decision over Felaxe, which came with a brilliant rush on the outside through the stretch. Bill Lutz also came from the rear and outgamed the tiring Zode for third. Le Flore, the popular choice, was never prominent, racing below his best R. Klein hustled Elegy to the front in the first furlong of the initial dash. Although closely pressed by Social Climber to the stretch head, the ONeil filly drew out into a clear lead thereafter, scoring with considerable to spare. Social Climber was best of the remainder and Lady de Ver had no opposition for the minor award. Miss Frisky raced close up in the early stages, then weakened badly. She has probably staled off. The French Rose registered her first success in months for James Bronnenberg when she showed the way by a rather comfortable margin in the second race. Free Helen raced in closest pursuit of the winner to the stretch head, where Rain or Shine moved up on the inside into second place, retaining that position during the run home. In the final drive Arrowlike saved third from Marcelet. Venarock showed the way for half the trip in the third race, with The King, top-heavy favorite, in closest pursuit. The Castle colorbearer then moved into the lead with little effort and drew away decisively through the stretch, scoring with ridiculous ease. Venarock had no serious opposition for the place award. The finish for third was more stirring, Moselle S. securing that award in a drive from My Ideal and Sideshow. Harry Allshouse, one of the large stockholders of the Thistle Down track, is associate to John Ireland in the stewards stand. A full membership of the Ohio State Racing Commission was on hand for the opening of Thistle Down and then departed for Coney Island.
