Mich June 14 Abe Bartel steins Old Depot one of the most consistent performers here which finished second to Bien Fait in the Michigan Cup Handicap last Saturday was beaten this afternoon At the end of the Niles Purse vthat was the fifth and principal offering the fiveyear old son of My Play was third thirdWinning Winning honors went to P A Carreauds Sea Fox which was scoring his first suc ¬ cess since he defeated the Detroit Derby eligible Swiftsport at Pimlico Mrs A A Baronis Flying Sailor was second three quarters of a length back of the winner and a neck before the Bartelstein colorbearer colorbearerOnly Only five started oyer the eight furlongs and although the winner was the first under way and led the pack to the back stretch Flying Sailor took command and moved into a long lead Tommy Luther was saving the winner and at the end of the three quarters brought him alongside the leader Heading Flying Sailor he gradually in ¬ creased his advantage and was drawing away at the end While Old Depot was slow to get in motion and was outrun for a half mile Slipper King propped at the start and was forced to overcome a big loss of ground At the far turn however Continued on largest week day gathering of the meeting was on hand for the sport which was de ¬ cided over a fast track Favorites again were in the minority with long priced winners driving down at the end of several of the races racesSeven Seven of the better grade platers met at six furlongs in the fourth race which sup ¬ ported the feature and this resulted in the third surprise of the afternoon when A J Halliwells Don Vern drove down on the out ¬ side to beat the favored The Point by three quarters of a length for the major portion of the purse Playing On was third a length back of The Point and a length before In ¬ flate flateWhile While Genteel Lady Inflate and The Point dominated the race to the stretch the win ¬ ner ridden by R Cochrane was forced to Improve his position at a loss of ground At the end of the half mile he caught the lead ¬ ers to wear down The Point in the final sixteenth Although Genteel Lady and In ¬ flate tired after a half mile The Point like the winner was forced to lose ground and this proved too great for when the winner challenged The Point had little left leftTwelve Twelve maiden twoyearolds started in the first race under claiming conditions and it resulted in a popular victory for Mrs M Lowensteins My Blonde Second went to La Cheri with Dark Dianne third Mose Helm had the winner in command at the start and after she lost ground entering the stretch Helm kept after the daughter of Blondin and Miserette to the end despite her four lengths advantage La Cherie was always the best of the others while Dark Dianne was forced to overcome early inter ¬ ference in earning the minor award Vig nolas Bud quit badly after threeeighths and Station Belle second choice to the winner was one of the last in motion motionRye Rye furnished a mild surprise when he carried J Bells colors to an easy victory over the well backed Morsun Swifty and seven others that started in the second race raceIn In close attendance of the pace of Lanier for the first quarter of the threequarters dash the winner forged to the front there ¬ after and although Morsun came up on the outside and offered him a strong challenge after reaching the stretch he was much the best and the finish found him two lengths in the van under mild restraint Swifty was alow to reach his stride and was forced to race on the outside to head the tiring Princeton for the minor award awardA A bad start marred the third race which resulted in the biggest surprise of the aft ¬ ernoon when the improved Gene D from the E Drillon stable was the winner Sec ¬ ond went to Chatterdoo with Twidgets third thirdBenefited Benefited by th bad start Chatterdoo and Gene D stole a big lead at the start and the latter rushed into a commanding lead in the first furlong of the six furlongs Chatterdoo improved his position gradually and he was wearing down the winner at the finish with a head separating them Always best of the others Twidgets experienced little trouble in holding the favored Kings Minstrel safe for the minor award awardDignified Dignified made it three in a row when he carried the Detroitowned Odessa Farm Stable colors to an easy victory in the sixth race The Fetter was second with On Leave third thirdThe The winner was strongly restrained while following the pace of Tom Jack Jr and The Petter but after threequarters forged to the front and drew away into a four lengths advantage at the finish Mauro who scored with Rye had the mount on the winner
