CHANCE LINE IMPROVES Widener Racer Suddenly Recovers Best Form at Homewood Gallops Three Quarters Within Fifth Fifthof of Second of Track Recprd Arcaro Has Big Day HOMEWOOD 111 June 14 The most glaring form reversal of the meeting came out of the Nancy McCord Purse a three quarters condition race engaging five of the better grade older racers which featured the Washington Park program today Chance Line furnished by the J E Widener stable and trained by D E Stewart was the one to accomplish the form flip flop and the manner in which he improved over his pre ¬ vious two efforts running the distance in 111 and winning with speed to spare left many in the Thursday crowd aghast aghastWith With Eddie Arcaro in the saddle Chance Line pulled away until he was two and one half lengths before the J Lowenstein geld ring and 73 to 100 favorite at the finish Eight lengths back the Shandon Farms Ashen also a threeyearold filled third place with Colonist and Sad Knight in his jwake jwakeIncidentally Incidentally Arcaro rode four winners during the afternoon afternoonAlthough Although Sun Captors early pace was very fast the quarter being timed in 23 and the half mile in 47 first page failing to land second honors from Drole Polly PollyStuyvesant Stuyvesant Peabodys veteran Martie Flynn made good for the public in the third race another dash of six furlongs for lowly platers but only because of the excellent handling he received from Eddie Arcaro His final margin over Curb Bit was a neck while well back the others headed by Gun ¬ fire finished in a group groupMartie Martie Flynn was restrained next to the rail during the early stages while Oziti and Brother Ben fought for the lead Curb Bit was not much farther away Arcaro waited until reaching the stretch before making his move The Peabody gelding moved up slowly on the outside while still under slight restraint and this stood him in good stead for in the final furlong the suddenly im ¬ proved Curb Bit made a bold challenge for victory Gunfire finished fast to get third after being blocked on the far turn and los ¬ ing ground coming into the stretch stretchFor For the sixth time Fair Billows ran sec ¬ ond when he was the runnerup in the fourth race over one mile but he probably would have turned the tables on John Marschs Four Spot under more competent riding than he received from M Winters He stumbled at the start and at the head of the stretch the Harned Bros racer was unable to maintain ia straight course when Winters went to the whip The latter also was of little help to the gelding in the final sixteenth where Four Spot had to be ridden out by W Hanka after having been con ¬ fidently rated in front from the start startTwo Two lengths separated the first two horses while Annan was third slightly farther away and closely pressed by Sallie Bourland and Mint Memories
