CONFLICT IN NEW ENGLAND RACING DATES PAWTUCKET R I June 14 There may be a conflict in New England Lou Smith manager of Rockingham Park Salem N H and Walter OHara head of the new racing plant at Narragansett Park R I are lock ¬ ing horns in the matter of racing dates datesRockingham Rockingham Park has been allowed two meetings by the New Hampshire Racing Commission the first from June 23 to July 28 and the second from August 25 to Sep ¬ tember 29 With betting legal in Rhode Is ¬ land the state commission sanctioned two meetings of the Narragansett Racing Asso ¬ ciation and approved the dates from August 1 to September 3 for the summer session and from October 1 to November 3 for the fall meeting This means a clash between the two tracks from August 25 to September 3 a serious matter as virtually the same staff of racing officials has been engaged by both tracks and a large number of racing sta ¬ bles wish to race at the two meetings Still more important the red letter Labor Day date September 3 is involved involvedWalter Walter OHara offers to waive the Labor Day date provided Smith agrees to post ¬ pone his fall opening from August 25 until Labor Day In order for Smith to complete his schedule OHara further offered to set back Narragansetts fall opening day to October 8 thus permitting Smith to extend his dates to October 6 without opposition
