BEULAH PARK OPENS TODAY First of Ohio State Meetings of 1935 to Begin at CJolumbus Track Everything In Readiness for Successful Bac Bacing ing Throughout Season Plenty Horses Horsesof of Good Caliber Available COLUMBUS Ohio May 10 The Ohio racing season will begin Saturday with the opening of the annual spring meeting at Beulah Park and from now until late in the fall there will be almost continuous rac ¬ ing in this state not only at the tracks that have been operated regularly in the last few years but on several tracks that have not attempted racing in the last two or three seasons seasonsNot Not all of these dates have been granted by the Ohio State Racing Commission but have been tentatively agreed upon and will probably be announced in a few days It is very probable that Lancaster Ohio will bo the scene of a short meeting to last no less than ten days with a probable extension to nineteen days this opening being planned for a date at or right after the close of tho Dayton meeting which will begin a week after Beulahs first meeting comes to a close closeThe The first two meetings at Beulah and Dayton give the horsemen almost continu ¬ ous racing for thirtyeight days and Lan ¬ caster if present plans do not miscarry will extend this probably three weeks longer This of course does not take into account the Cleveland and Cincinnati meetings which are to be of longer duration durationBeulah Beulah Park is all dressed up for Sat ¬ urdays opening as it has never been before By a gradual process of improvement this plant which up to a year ago was a half mile track and is now threequarters with a quartermile chute has been made into one of the best of the smaller tracks in the country Racing fans of Columbus and vicinity who have read little about the work that has been done there since last fall will be astounded at the improvements that have been made not only in the matter of beautifying the plant but in increasing tho facilities which have been all too small for the proper accommodation of the large Sat ¬ urday and holiday crowds that have at ¬ tended the Beulah Park races in the last two seasons seasonsH H D Shepard president of the Beulah Park Jockey Club and A B Miller secre ¬ tary have devoted considerable time to car ¬ rying out architects plans for the better accommodation of spectators and players with the result that the grandstand and mutuel plant have been almost made over Much painting and retouching has been done to make this picture a pleasing one oneWilliam William Dangman will again be presiding steward at Beulah Park as well as at Day ¬ ton and Lancaster He has been ill for several weeks but is now able to supervise the stewards part of the job of getting the meeting off to a successful start startApplications Applications for stall space at Beulah have never been quite so numerous and judge Dangman is of the opinion that Beulah will have a higher grade of horses and a larger colony of competent riders than ever be ¬ fore in the history of this track trackWord Word reached here Friday of the sudden death of Irish Arnold one of the best known money room meen on the Ohio tracks for years He was en route to his home at Ak ¬ ron Ohio from Miami Fla when he sud ¬ denly became stricken
