Dorsays and Mint Drift Score Nar ¬ row Victories at Aurora Spectacular Finishes Thrill Another AnotherBig Big Crowd Stevenson Takes TakesSaddle Saddle Honors AURORA 111 May 10 The stable of W C Morris stole the show at Exposition Park today when that establishment furnished the winners of the fourth and fifth races of which the latter event was the feature titled the Enric Madriguera Claiming Purse It has been many years since a performer under three has raced in the colors of Mor ¬ ris who believes or must believe that horses improve with age After the five yearold Dorsays was successful in the fourth race the sevenyearold Mint Drift got avay with honors in the fifth which engaged eight of the better grade sprinters for a test of threequarters threequartersIn In both instances the finishes were of the hair raising variety Mint Drift being ex ¬ tended to the limit to gain her decision by a neck while her stablemate gained his con ¬ quest by a head Dominant Miss another mare well along in years was the one which gave Mint Drift the strongest contention and her effort gaini the second award while the favored Preferred came from last placa to take third thirdThe The winner hustled into the lead soon after the start set a good pace to maintain her position and sped along smoothly with ¬ out much opposition until reaching the final eighth It was there that Dominant Miss caught her but the victress kept to her task in a game manner and outfinished her chal ¬ lenger which also gave a game performance performanceAnother Another ideal day was in order for the sport which served to bring out another large crowd The track was improved but not at its best although the first winner which is probably a stake performer raced the threequarters in the opening race in 112 112In In the fastest race of the meeting Trans mutable from the stable of Mrs J C Gil lem made a show of the band of maidens which raced threequarters in the opening dash Carrying 109 pounds the victor nego ¬ tiated the distance in 112 and won by the decisive margin of eight lengths which sug ¬ gests he might develop into a good per performer before the season is very old J J Coughlins Fire Advance raced to sec ¬ ond place and probably would have been closer to the winner under a more energetic ride for after being allowed to remain far out of contention he closed like a streak in the final stages to down Lady Bracadale for the place award Due to his sensational works the winner was strongly favored and paid slightly more than even money moneyAnother Another galloping winner came in the sec ¬ ond race when J W Frye Srs Hot Flash virtually spreadeagled a band of threeyear olds from the ranks of nonwinners in 1935 Hustled to a prominent position after the start the victress easily disposed of Mim which led during the first quarter and after supplanting the latter Hot Flash drew away to win easing up by six lengths The stable of J J Coughlin furnished the second horse when Teernahilla accountedfor that part of the purse while Mae Luby a rank out aider in the betting came to the end in third place Immutable a stablemate of Transmutable the first winner came in for such heavy support that she went to the post a strong favorite but the rumor that she was better than the first winner could not be substantiated by her performance though she can be rated much better than her first effort would indicate indicateScout Scout Chief was the winner of the third race which culminated in the closest finish witnessed since Wednesday His margin at the end was half a length over Easy Bid with third going to Chief Bunting BuntingThe The strongly backed choices Morvim and Last Stand fared badly with the former failing to keep pace after attaining a for ¬ ward position while the latter was a vic ¬ tim of a bungling ride in which he got away badly and then was guided into a pocket in the stretch where he had no chance to give his best when racing at top speed speedDorsays Dorsays one of the youngest performers in the stable of W C Morris carried the yellow and black colors of his owner to victory in the fourth race staging one of his usual game efforts when he trimmed Gorbet Irvins Flying Justice getting the decision by a head Third went to Occult OccultThe The first two shared favoritism in the betting and it was a nipandtuck affair from the eighth post to the finish line with the winner proving the gamest Jockey K McCray who rode Flying Justice lodged a claim of foul but it was disallowed disallowedBefore Before leaving for Kentucky J C Gillem trainer of Transmutable winner of the first race Friday promised racing secretary R A Leigh that he would start the colt in the Illinois Derby if he won the first time he started him himJ J J Coughlin was on hand to witness Fri ¬ days racing and had the pleasure of seeing his representatives in the first and second races run second This is the first visit the Chicago alderman has paid the track this year
