INA DEAR drew clear in the first few strides, was steadied along in front after opening up a good lead and, holding on gamely, was never seriously threatened. FESTOON, slow to begin, worked her way up gradually and, coming to the outside in the last three-sixteenths, closed with a rush. CASH BOOK, well up and under pressure, made a determined effort to reach the leaders and tired slightly in the closing strides. HAROLD S. was much used chasing the leader and tired in the last eighth. SKOTCHY was well up, but unable to close ground under pressure. JOHN TIO was in close quarters through the first quarter mile. PANA FRANKA displayed good early speed and, hard ridden in an effort to reach the pacemaker, tired slightly in the drive. KOWTOW closed gamely. CIVIL WAR had brief early speed though dropping back after racing the first fiye-sixteenths. ZULU LAD, away slowly, kicked speed and was never prominent. DREEL, under steadying restraint early, began moving up on the outside in the last quarter mile and finished with good energy under pressure. INDIANTOWN, hustled to the front soon after the start, was steadied along ahead of his field for the first five-eighths, but was unable to stave off the challenges of the first two. FIDELIS -was unable to reach the leaders. GOLDEN FATE forced the early pace, but weakened through the stretch. THE DARB was never prominent, racing far back throughout. LEGENDER unseated his rider at the post, took command immediately after the start, drew clear in the run to the first turn, was rated along under slight restraint, surrendered command briefly in the stretch, but came again and held SLIPPER KING safe. The latter, on -the inside until reaching the back stretch, was sent up on the outside, assumed a slight lead in the stretch, but was unable to maintain his advantage under pressure. TAUNTON, within striking distance of the pace, was unable to reach the leaders under punishment. SAND BABY, outrun early, closed some ground. GUAPITO moved up on the inside rounding the far turn, loomed up threateningly approaching the stretch, but dropped back in the last three-sixteenths. FIFTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. FURFIBER improved his position gradually and closed with a rush through the last quarter. COLD SHOULDER, outpaced early, closed a big gap and was racing stoutly at the end. ARIEL CROSS forced the pace of ROUGH PARTY, assumed a slight lead between calls, but was unable to keep pace in the drive. PLAT EYE, reserved within striking distance of the pace, found his impost too great and was unable to improve his position when called upon. MORPLUCK closed a big gap. TWEEDLEDEE was unable to get to the leaders. ROUGH PARTY displayed good speed setting the pace, but quit badly in the last three-sixteenths. PROPAGANDIST, steadied along in close pursuit of the pace,, was roused leaving the back stretch, moved up briefly, then started dropping back. ANNARITA tired after showing early speed.
